Barney Pip

Barney Pip was a WCFL DJ in Chicago & the Rovin Kind was loaned to him as a favour by Dunwich records. Barney Pip joined the bandwagon of recording DJs in 1967. "You Turn Me On" was a cover of a tune made popular by Ian Whitcomb of the Irish Band, Bluesville, which reached the top 10 on the U.S. charts in June 1965. Pip originally started his radio career in 1959 and remained in the industry all of his life. He died in February 1994 in Indianapolis.

. There was an article & pictures appearing in TeenSet magazine October 1967 “Barney Pip’s first recording session.”. Here is the transcript from captions under various photos of Pip for the article: “ooo-ah-ooo-ah-ooo-ooo, that three year record contract turns Barney on.” “Eyes closed and forehead wrinkled, Barney displays the intense concentration required by a truly great artist. Or maybe it’s just an Excedrin headache.” “After doing ‘You turn me on’ perfectly in one take, Barney smiles as he listens to the playback. But lest anyone forget he’s a great artist, Barney still keeps his eyes closed.” “Recording ‘you can’t stand still’ with the Rovin’ Kind takes more time. Here Barney starts on one of the 9000 odd takes required to complete that side. Unfortunately most of the takes were very odd, which is why this may not only be the first exclusive report on a Barney Pip recording session, but also the last. And if you don’t believe us, quickly…”
