Pearson's local pub is the Rising Sun in Sunniside. Each Sunday night at 9pm they hold a quiz. We have entered this quiz every week since June 8th 2003. We also enter the Marquis of Granby quiz on a Monday night. See below for our performances so far. Click here for a detailed table of our quiz results. Week 1: The first time the team entered was June 8th 2003. We were one of 8 teams to enter, and we finished in a miserable 8th positon, however we scored a respectable 41 out of 50 points - only 8 points behind the eventual winners. Week 2:We entered for a 2nd week on 15th June 2003. This time we were one of only 4 teams to enter, and we surpassed ourselves by finishing 3rd with 39 points out of a possible total of 50. For finishing in 3rd position we all won a T-Shirt, made by a company called Haynes (www.haynes.com) The team wore the T-Shirts at Part 3 of the project. We took 2 cameras and the photos are on the image gallery page. Week 3:The team entered for a 3rd week (22nd June 2003). We finished a miserable 4th position (out of 4). We only managed to score a measly 25 points, out of a total of 50. Unsurprisingly we failed to win a prize. Week 4: (29th June 2003) The team regain the form from week 2 and once again finish 3rd. This time no clothing prizes were offered so we settled for 4 free bottles of Fosters. A final score of 37 out of 50. Week 5: On 6th July 2003 we were all ready to win, all 8 of the team were there (Pearson, Tooma, Gilly, Wally, Richie, Lanky, Duck and Harle.) But with this many amount of members it only caused more disagreement and we again failed. 4th position.....out of 4! A final score of 29 out of 50. Week 6:The team had stiff competition on 13th July 2003. 6 teams (including ourselves) entered (The most amount of teams since week 1.) We tried our hardest and managed to get a final position of 5th. We scored 38 out of 50. Week 7:It had to happen sometime, TPP Pub Quiz Team finally managed to end a quiz as victors. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Richie, Duck and Lanky were present for the teams finest moment. Unluckily our moment was let down when we found out we were only facing another 2 teams, but with a total of 39 out of 50 we were proud, and we claimed 8 free pints to celebrate. Week 8:The team entered to defend their title (27th July 2003). Unsurprisingly we failed, our worst performance to date. 5th out of 5 and a miserable 24 points out of 50. Week 9:The team entered on 3/8/03 in depleted style. Due to holiday and work commitments Wally, Lanky and Tooma all missed the quiz leaving only Pearson, Gilly, Duck and Richie to make it. We still scored a respectable 29 points out of 50 and finished 2nd out of 3. We claimed 4 free pints as prizes. Week 10:Pearson, Wally, Duck ,Tooma + Richie were present for Week 10, while Gilly and Lanky were on holiday. The team continued their good form with another 2nd position out of 3, scoring 31.5 points out of a possible 50. Another 4 free pints were claimed. Week 11:The team had finished in 2nd position for the last 2 weeks running, and this week proved to be no different, with a final score of 33 out of 51 (1.5 pts behind the winners) Gilly, Pearson, Lanky, Richie, Duck, Wally and Tooma managed to claim 2nd position out of 4. The team claimed 4 bottles of Fosters and 4 bottles of LCL as a prize. Week 12:The team had finished 2nd for the last 3 weeks running, we wanted to go 1 step further this week, but instead we went 1 step back and finished 3rd 4 teams including ourselves entered, and we scored 40.5 pts (1.5 pts behind the eventual winners). The team all claimed a free watch which we will all wear at Part 4 of the project (28/8/03) along with our Hanes shirts and "See You Jimmy" hats. Photos will be taken as usual. Week 13: We thought it was a fluke in Week 7, but the team done it again. 13 is unlucky for some but Week 13 was the luckiest ever for The Pearson Project Pub Quiz Team. We won the quiz for a 2nd time in our history and scored our highest points total ever - 42 out of 50! 4 Teams including ourselves entered, and we were strong enough to overcome them all. After the quiz finished, the team realised that it was the same 6 people present as when we won in Week 7 (Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Richie, Duck and Lanky) From now on the team does not change!!! (Until we lose, which will be Week 14) Week 14: The team entered to defend their title on Sunday 7/9/03, however - we failed. We finished 2nd out of 3 with 37 out of 53 pts.Present for the team were Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Toomer, Richie, Lanky + Duck. Week 15: 14/9/03 was the date for Week 15. The team were less confident than normal when we found out that 5 teams were entering this week, and add to that the fact the questions were a little harder, left us finishing in 3rd position with a total of 38 out of 50. We still claimed 4 free bottles of Fosters so it wasn't too bad. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Duck, Richie, Lanky + Tooma were present. Week 15 (Part 2): The Marquis of Granby in nearby Streetgate was the location for part 2 of Week 15. 4 teams including ourselves entered, and we were pleased (and even more amazed) to hear we were leading after Round 1. We also retained our lead after Rounds 2 + 3. In the 4th and final round, the questions became a little more difficult and consequently the team failed and somehow managed to come last. We scored 27 points while the winners scored 31. Despite losing we were awarded a free box of Asda Strawberry Creams. Pearson, Tooma, Gilly and Richie were present for this week although we expect more of the team to be there next week. Week 16: The team entered the Rising Sun Quiz on 21/9/03. We had amazing luck by winning for the 3rd time in our history. Even more amazingly it was the same 6 people once again that were present in our 2 previous victories. We scored 41 outr of 52 and claimed 8 free points. Week 16 (Part 2): The team decided to make it another 2 day quiz run. Entering the Marquis quiz on the 22nd September didn't bring much luck as we lost once again. We scored a poor 26 out of 73. Although we claimed a free football trivia book as sympathy. Week 17: We attempted to defend our title but unsurprisingly failed. We finished 5th out of 6 scoring 34 out of 50 and claiming absoloutely no prize. Week 18: 27 out of 50 pts, 4th out of 5, apart from that the night seems a blur. Week 19: A shock for the team - a new quizmaster! A Scottish man took the microphone and we couldn't understand a word he was saying, we still somehow managed to finish 2nd scoring 37 points and claiming 4 free pints. Week 19 (Part 2): Our 3rd entry into the Marquis Quiz, and with 5 minutes to go we were the only team there. Unluckily a 2nd team entered and beat us. We scored 32.5 pts and won a box of Chocolate Caramels. Week 20: We were determined to win this week as it was Lanky's birthday. Unfortunately we couldnt manage to overcome the other teams and ended up finishing in 3rd position, with 36 pts out of 51 and no prizes. Week 20 (Part 2):Not a bad night at the Marquis of Granby, the winners won by a mile on 44 pts, while we came joint 2nd on 33 pts. Our best position so far. Week 21: We thought the days of winning were over, but seemingly not, we had a taste of victory halfway through the quiz with the new bonus round. We were closest to the answer and claimed 2 pints for that, then we carried our good form on to beat the other 2 teams, and finish victors for the 4th time. 36 out of 50 pts, and 8 free pints. Week 21 (Part 2):We'd won the previous night, and wanted to carry on some good form. We done very well, but other teams done even better and unsurprisingly we finished last again. 4th out of 4 with 49 points. Week 22:We managed to do something we had failed to do in the previous 22 weeks - defend our title. The Pearson Project Pub Quiz Team won for a 2nd week in a row. 37 out of 51 and 1st out of 6 teams. Week 22 (Part 2):After 2 weeks of winning and with 10 people in our team surely we had to do better than last position? And for the first time at the Marquis of Granby quiz, we did. 5th out of 6 with 39 points. Week 23:We had won for the previous 2 weeks and were ready to lose our title, but when we heard there were only 2 teams in the quiz we thought we could win for a 3rd week in a row - we did! It's getting quite repetitive but 33 pts from 50 is good enough for us. Week 24:4 weeks in a row - surely not? Not was the case, 3 teams entered we finished 2nd with 36 pts and lost our title, we still claimed 4 pints for 2nd though. Week 24(Part 2):After losing our Rising Sun title we had the difficult task of achieveing anything at the Marquis. Unsurprisingly we managed to achieve nothing, 6th out of 6 with 38 pts. Week 25:Most of the team were in Amsterdam while Duck and Lanky were at a Radiohead concert, leaving just Wally to represent the team. He finished 4th out of 6 and scored 28 points. Not bad for being on your own. Week 26:The team's first quiz since their return from Amsterdam was greeted with a new quizmaster. He had a different style quiz with a lot more General Knowledge questions. This wasn't good news. We finished 6th out of 6 with only 24 out of 50 points. Week 26 (Part 2):The torrential rain wasn't going to stop us going to the Marquis quiz, but in hindsight we may as well have stayed at home. We had a couple of good rounds but still couldn't do any better than the night before at the Sun. 6th out of 6 again, with 34 points. Week 27:The new quizmaster's quizzes are fun, but too hard for us. 5th out of 5 with only 26 points. Maybe next week. Week 28:Same points tally as last week, and the same position. However there was an extra team this week so we didn't finish last! 5th out of 6, 26 pts. Week 29:6 teams including ourselves entered again, unsurprisingly we finished 6th, better points tally though, 31 out of 50. Week 29 (Part 2):The team returned to the Marquis after a 3 week absence, and the gap must have done us good. An amazing 58 points and a 3rd place finish, what made it even better was the fact there was 6 teams competing. Week 30:The team came into this week after a great performance on Monday. Unfortunately and unsurprisingly we couldn't replicate the achievement. 6th out of 6 with 27/50 pts. Week 30 (Part 2)We realised that last Monday's performance wasn't to be replicated as quick as the first round. We failed at the Picture Round, but lifted our performance in the following 3 rounds to manage 7th out of 8 with 39 points. Week 31:The team split into 2 for this week. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma and Wally called themselves Dick Steel Limited while Harle and Lanky (+ Jamie and Mo) represented The Pearson Project. Dick Steel Limited managed to finish 4th with 27.5 pts, while The Pearson Project ended half a point behind in 5th (last) on 27. Week 31 (Part 2):We started well again, leading for the first half of the quiz, but our performance dipped and we ended in 5th out of 8 with 51 pts, 17 behind the winners. Week 32:We split into 2 teams again. The original 4 founder members of the project (Pearson, Gilly, Tooma + Wally) were joined by Harle and returned as The Pearson Project. We scored 27.5 pts and finished 6th out of 6. Lanky, Duck and Richie were the second team named The Dave Watchman Fan Club they finished 3rd with 31.5 pts. Week 32 (Part 2):We travelled to the Marquis on 18th Jan. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Richie and latecomer Harle couldn't overcome the other 7 teams. 8th out of 8, but an impressive 58 points. Week 33:The team regrouped as one this week and managed to finish 5th out of 6 with an average 28 points. Week 33 (Part 2):After last weeks disappointment at the Marquis, we owed it to ourselves to improve. We did - 6th out of 8 with 52 points. Week 34:After a slight improvement last week we decided to stay as one team again. Our best Sunday quiz for a long time - 4th out of 7 with 28 pts (out of 50). All 8 of the team were present. Week 34 (Part 2):The Landmark 50th Quiz for the team. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Harle and Richie represented the team and managed to finish 5th out of 10 with 58 from 90 points. A decent performance in our opinion. Week 35:We wanted to improve on last week, and managed it. 2nd position with 27 out of 40 pts. A total of 5 teams including ourselves entered. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Harle, Richie, Lanky + Duck were present. Week 35 (Part 2):We done well the night before, but the 9th of February was the best night ever for the Pub Quiz Team. We won the Marquis of Granby Quiz for the first time in our history. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Harle + Richie scored 56 points out of 90 and fended off another 6 teams to crown what is arguably the finest moment in The Pearson Project Pub Quiz Team's history. We won a box of liqruice allsorts and £8 to share. Week 36:The team decided to split into 2 again. The Pearson Project consisted of Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally + Harle and they scored 42 out of 50 finishing 2nd (after a tiebreak question). Meanwhile, Lanky, Duck + Richie (+ Mo, Jamie + Kerry) were named Mr Yangs Mega Dance Attack Party scoring 37 from 50, and finishing 5th out of 5. The Pearson Project won 4 pints but donated them to 3 old guys sitting at the bar as they helped us when we got stuck (Not cheating - honest!) Week 36 (Part 2):We entered to defend our title on the 15th of Feb. We knew we'd fail so it was no surpise when we learnt our final position was 5th out of 6 with 48 from 90 pts. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Richie + Harle were present for the team. Week 37:After finishing 2nd for 2 weeks running, we made it our aim to go that 1 position higher, unsurprisngly we failed and went 1 position lower. 3rd out of 5 with 33/50 pts. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Harle, Richie, Lanky + Duck were present for the team. Week 37 (Part 2):We knew we were doomed from the start as there was 9 teams including ourselves entering. We only managed 8th position and a very poor 39 pts from 85. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Richie + Harle were present. Week 38:An amazing 10 teams including ourselves entered - the most teams ever at the Rising Sun Quiz. We thought it was going to be difficult to overcome them all, but we managed 4th position with 25.5 pts. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Tooma, Harle + Richie were present. Week 38 (Part 2):After last weeks disappointment we wanted to improve, unluckily the team had an "off night" and completely failed. 7th out of 7, 36 pts from 85. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Tooma, Harle + Richie were present. Week 39:Pearson and Harle thought they were the only members entering for the team, but then Gilly and Wally turned up late, still in depleted style the team finished 4th out of 6 with 28 pts. Week 39 (Part 2): The team is still in a very poor run of form, and this week was no different. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally and Harle could only manage 6th out of 6 and 39 pts. Week 40: Only 4 teams entered so we thought we had a chance, that chance disappeared very early and we were last - 4th out of 4 with only 29 pts. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally and Richie were present. Week 40 (Part 2):We still couldn't break the poor run, but we did manage 5th out of 6 with 46 pts, Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Richie and Harle were present. Week 41:We were back to how it used to be. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma and Wally - a small team. This is how it started, but we answered more questions correctly back then. 5th out of 5 with 22 pts. Our worst performance ever. Week 42:After last nights disappointment, we weren't expecting much. And we certainly weren't expecting to be joined by 2 of the Pearson Project Forum regulars - Jarra (Steve) and Nik, also with them was Bish (Gilly's friend from the Sunderland matches, who also knows Steve and Nik). We managed 5th position out of 8, and 40 pts out of 85. Week 43:Duck returned to the team after missing the last 4 weeks, and he joined Pearson, Gilly, and Wally as once again we failed. 24 pts from 40 and 6th out of 7. Week 43 (Part 2):Once again the team were joined by outsiders. Harle's m8's Kev and Paul turned up but unfortunately couldn't change the teams poor form and we ended up 7th out of 8 with only 42 points. Week 44:Gilly missed the quiz due to being stuck in Manchester, but Pearson, Wally, Lanky, Duck + Harle completed an average performance finishing 4th out of 7 with 27 pts. Week 44 (Part 2):Kev the quizmaster said this weeks quiz was easy - for us it wasnt. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Tooma, Harle and Lanky(His first appearence at the Marquis) finished joint last(7th) with a very respectable 49 out of 85 pts. Week 45:The team were joined by Steve, Nik and Bish again, and split into 2 teams. The Pearson Project consisted of Pearson, Lanky, Duck, Harle and Jamie. While the second team was The Mackem Boozer(Sunderland message board), consisting of Gilly, Wally, Mo, Nik Steve and Bish. TPP finished 5th out of 11 with 26 pts, while Mackem Boozer finished in 4th on 27 pts. Week 45(Part 2): An amazing 11 teams entered and with 7 people on our team (Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Harle, Lanky + Duck) we should've finished higher than last. We managed a very respectable 54 points though, which gives us hope for next week. Week 45(Part 3): Lanky's Dad informed us that his local, The Coachmans pub in Whickham held a quiz on a Wednesday night. Time for us to pay a visit. Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally and Lanky were the 14th team to enter and unsurprisingly 14th was the position in which we finished. We managed 52 pts from 95 (Only 15 behind the winners), but we doubt we'll return. Week 46: A good turnout for the team, Pearson, Gilly, Tooma, Wally, Harle, Lanky, Duck, Jamie, Mo and Steve. 5 teams entered, we managed 3rd position. This week the quiz was out of 50 instead of 40 and we got 37 pts. 4 bottles of Fosters as a prize. Week 46 (Part 2):Tooma missed the quiz due to illness, but Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Harle + Jamie couldn't manage higher than 8th out of 8 with only 34.5 pts from 85. Week 47:Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Lanky, Duck, Jamie and Steve were present on our large team against only another 2 teams. We finished in the middle, 2nd out of 3, with 30.5 pts from 50. Week 47 (Part 2):The team were joined by Steve and Bish again and this proved to be very helpful, we were in the lead after 2 rounds but slipped down to 4th at the end. An amazing 77 pts out of 100. Pearson, Gilly, Wally, Harle and Jamie were there for the team. The team are intending to expand and diverse away from simply just the Rising Sun and Marquis of Granby Quizzes, and visit other pubs around the country to enter their quizzes. If you own, or know of a pub (preferably in the North East) who are holding a quiz, please don't hesitate to let us know and we'll try our best to attend the quiz. To get in touch simply e-mail us.
