Western Plains Zoo were the first to breed White Rhinos in Australia.
- Unfortunately there hasn't been a birth for 20 years.
- This changed recently with the birth of a female calf in May 2003. The mother was an animal recently arrived from quarantine at Monarto.
- Western Plains received five animals in 2003, 2 males and 3 females. With the birth of a calf, hopefully the zoo will once again establish itself as a breeding centre for the animals.
