Let's welcome Andy McKinnon (Andy-CA) He is 44 years young He says he's been working on cars for around 30 years but only 23 of them was he paid professionally. He is ASE certified. He concentrates his efforts in the areas of drivability, electrical, drive axles, manual transmission and a/c repair. Recently he made the move to a Chevrolet/Honda dealership. He's been there for 8 months. For all 23 years Andy was independent repair tech. He was foreman for 6 of the last 12 years at his last employer. He always took a great deal of pride in the fact that he could find and fix most problems on most cars. Recently he came to the realization that it is simply too damn hard and damn near impossible to know everything about everything with wheels on it. Not to mention the individual expense involved in tools and information required to be a "do all for all" kind of tech. The final push for him came after a customer, whom he been trying to go the extra yard to "help" out, got in his face for something he didn't even touch and was no way related to his previous repair. Bottom line....."I was tired of trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s**t for people who don't appreciate the effort and only want everything for nothing." So there I am. I chose my new shop very carefully. I chose this dealership for two reasons. The first, I have complete confidence in GM's inability to design and build a vehicle correctly. Therefore I have job security. Secondly, I love to work on Honda's!
