Joe on PwC
“During my internship with PwC I worked on both the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation and Mellon Collective Investment Funds audit. Both of these engagements were very different in the types of work that I completed and the number of different people that worked with at each client site. Although I was only at Wheeling for two weeks, I feel that I learned a great deal from the various engagement team members and from the different areas that I worked on. I was able to bring my experiences and knowledge from the classroom into my work at Wheeling and I was able to see how the accounting knowledge I have gained at Villanova applies to my audit work. Although I was only at Wheeling for a short time, I really enjoyed my time and found the differences between an audit of collective funds and a traditional corporation very interesting and informative.
After working on Wheeling, I spent the remaining nine weeks at Mellon. I really enjoyed my time at Mellon because of the strong team feeling that is present at Mellon. Each member of the Mellon team made me feel that I was important member of the team and the work that I completed was important to the overall audit. At Mellon I learned to use the Bloomberg terminal to look up security prices, yields and details along with the many other functions that the Bloomberg service offers. I also learned a great deal at Mellon about financial services and the different types of securities and funds that are offered in the financial services industry. I hope to put this new knowledge to use when I return to school this summer. Finally, I also enjoyed all of the time I spent with the members of Mellon at social events such as the bowling tournament against the Alcoa team. I hope I get the opportunity to work with the members of the Mellon team again in the future.”
