In addition to
all of our hard work on client assignments, we were able to spend time learning
from some senior members of the firm, as well as having some fun. During our
multiple breakfast and lunch gatherings, we were able to interact with
knowledgeable people in the firm both formally, through presentations, as well
as informally, through discussion. We also spent some time observing, visiting,
and just plain relaxing.
- “Meet Your
Mentor” Breakfast – On our first day back after training, we attended a
breakfast with our career mentors, as well as our peer mentors. We were able
to spend time getting to know each other in hopes of establishing strong
relationships with people whom we could rely on to help guide us throughout
our internships.
-
Intern/Partner Breakfast – As interns, we may not always have the most
opportunity to interact with the PwC partners. This breakfast allowed us the
time to sit down and discuss just about anything we wanted, from PwC to world
news to what vacations we were hoping to take.
- CPA
Presentation with Bill Schaupp – Although we are still in college, the CPA
exam will soon be an important focus as we begin our careers. This
informative presentation went through the basics of the new computer based CPA
exam in order to help us prepare.
- International
Tours Presentation with Dan Simoni – International travel and business
experience is invaluable in the accounting profession. We were able to
receive an in depth look into the international tours programs that PwC offers
to its people by hearing all about Dan’s experiences overseas.
- Partner
Shadowing Day – What exactly does a partner do every day? That is the
question we were hoping to answer as each of us spent a day with one of the
Pittsburgh office partners.
- Pittsburgh
Pirates Game – Although the 9-2 loss was embarrassing, we still had an
enjoyable time seeing the Pirate’s home opener at PNC Park.
- Kennametal
Visit - It is not a good idea to keep your head buried in financial statements
24/7. Sometimes you need to see where those numbers actually come from.
In our last week as PwC interns, we took a mini road trip out to visit the
Kennametal team in Latrobe. We enjoyed an educational tour through the
beautiful research and development facility, and even took the team out for
lunch!
