Water is an important part of any birds habitat.
There are many ways to offer water, including
birdbaths, shallow bowls, dishes, drippers,
misters, or ponds.
TIP:
The noise of falling
water is an invitation to birds. It will
increase the number of species that visit
the area. Install a small spray fountain
like the one to the left, designed for
garden ponds. |

Birds usually will not wade deeper
than 4". Often
commercial birdbaths are too deep or slippery for
birds. So, allow slopes, rocks, or place a
brick in the middle, for birds to sit on, when
drinking from a bath. Location is key in making your birdbath easy to view
and clean. Place the birdbath where you can see
it and replinish bath with fresh water
every few days.

TIP:
Cleaning a birdbath can
be done with a stiff brush.

In the winter birds will eat snow to get
water, but providing them with a heated water source,
will assist them in maintaining their plumage and keeping
warm
