Water is an important part of any birds habitat. There are many ways to offer water, including birdbaths, shallow bowls, dishes, drippers, misters, or ponds.
TIP: The noise of falling water is an invitation to birds. It will increase the number of species that visit the area. Install a small spray fountain like the one to the left, designed for garden ponds.

 

   
Birds usually will not wade deeper than 4". Often commercial birdbaths are too deep or slippery for birds. So, allow slopes, rocks, or place a brick in the middle, for birds to sit on, when drinking from a bath. Location is key in making your birdbath easy to view and clean. Place the birdbath where you can see it and replinish bath with fresh water every few days.


TIP: Cleaning a birdbath can be done with a stiff brush.

In the winter birds will eat snow to get water, but providing them with a heated water source, will assist them in maintaining their plumage and keeping warm
