use of Complementary Colors
The
use of different colors in Colorpuncture is based on Goethe's original theory of
complementary (warm and cool) colors. Warm and cool colors are used to
balance the (yin and yang) energy flows in the Meridians. Each color has
its own complementary color - yellow and
violet, orange and
blue, red and
green - which
is used to create different effects on different meridians or zones on the
physical body and subtle bodies.
Mandel
discovered you can also tonify or sedate the acupuncture meridians by using
complementary pairs of colors. Generally, red,
orange, and yellow
stimulate, while green, blue, and
violet sedate. There are complementary
pairs of some sedating and stimulating colors assigned to each other, and these
are used bilaterally to treat the same acupuncture meridian. The more painful points are
a sign of energy excess. We treat these with the cool, then balance with the warmer color. On any given point the
energy is balanced by treating the excess with the cooler color first and
balancing the energy with the warmer color.
We
reserve the right to marvel at colors occurrences in meanings, to admire, and,
if possible, uncover color secrets.
---Goethe
Goethe was born on August 28, 1749,
in Frankfurt, and lived most of his life in Weimar, where he died in 1832. His
3-volume "Theory of Colors" culminated more than 42 years of research. His work
vigorously opposed the Newtonian idea of white light being "comprised" of the
different wavelengths of colored light. Although his approach has been
discredited in the context of Newtonian and Quantum physics, the
approach and understanding of his theory remains interesting to artists and some
scientists. Goethe's theories begin with the classic Aristotelian notion of
"cool" and "warm" colors (blues and reds). His concept is expressed poetically
as "colors are the deeds and sufferings of light." Goethe himself thought this
was his most important work, and he expected to be remembered as a scientist. |
