Five Pearls of Wisdom

(Dedicated to the memory of the founders of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated.)

There were five unique women
Who started the journey down this road
On the shoulders of those five women
Bore Zeta's first heavy load
Not once did they waiver
Or ever turn around
They taught us that a true lady of Zeta
Always stands her ground

No matter the odds, no matter the tests
Those special women taught us
To always put forth our best
Zeta was something inside
That they truly loved
Something that they knew
They would always be proud of

Now every Zeta must strive
To live the lives that they showed
For the things that they knew
We now know
Like the sky shall always be Blue
The Pearly Gates shall always be White
And when I like my Pearls
Close my dying eyes to darkness
I shall not fear
For they help to lead me down the path
Of God that is right
I have been led by the knowledge
Of the Zeta Light

I will not stand before my maker
Hanging my head down in shame
Because I know five Zetas in Heaven
Made sure that He would be proud
To sign my name

Phenomenal Woman
By Soror Calandria Jefferson-Anderson

Greek women wonder where my loyalty lies.
When I dream, it is in blue and white and I hear Z Phi's.
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the sincerity of my words,
The with springing from my lips,
The confidence in my step,
The dedication I convey to Scholarship.
I am a woman phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room just as cool as you please.
And to a man,
well the Sigma's stand,
While all other Greeks fall to their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive and honey bees.
I say,
It's the truth in my eyes,
And the proud stride in my hips,
The kindness of my heart,
And the commitment to Service.
I am a woman phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Greeks have wondered what they see in me.
They try so much, but they can't touch my inner mystery.
When I try to show them
The grace given me from above,
The beauty of my modesty,
The inner need to give and receive Sisterly Love.

Now, you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud,
When you see me dreaming of Z Phi
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's the blue in my heart,
The way I hold the principles I should,
The uniqueness of my thoughts.
The evidence of Finer Womanhood

'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Why else would I be a member of Z Phi B?

Excerpts from Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Woman Edited and Revised by Kimberly Campbell

Call to Sisterhood

There comes a time in all of our lives
When we have to push, pull, and strive
We won't know how to make it through
There will be times we just won't know what to do
For those times there is something we must see
There is no longer I-- but, us, our and we
This is when the call to sisterhood comes into play
When we remember we are one and we can find a way
The call to sisterhood means to be there when no one is around
This means we must lift each other up when we are down
We realize that we may not always get along
But being sisters, if we hang in there, we will always be strong
We will realize our differences and what we have the same
We should always be respectful, loving and never cast blame
We may get frustrated but this we should know
We are sisters; we must never let anger show
The call to sisterhood requires us to work together
It means should we separate, we are still sisters forever
As sisters we are to comfort and understand
Realize our shortcomings; never demand
Never Cause guilt, malice, or strife
May we remind you, we are sisters for life?
It can be hard at times and we knew that it would
But that is all right for we are answering the call to sisterhood

The Essence of a Finer Woman
Do you know the essence of a finer woman?
The strength of her sisterhood
The fact she'd do things no one would
The caring and compassion that is such an inspiration
The understanding that there is no such thing as limitation
The importance of oneness, in other words unity
The dedication to give back to the community
The striving and maintaining of sisterly love
The acknowledgement and reverence to our Creator above
The pride and confidence instilled so when things get hectic, she does not crumble
The serenity also instilled to bow down and be humble
The works of a finer woman are not to her benefit, but to others
She strives for the good of mankind, especially her sisters and constitutionally bound brothers
Though the essence of a finer woman revolves around the blue and white
She is capable of respecting other colors for they all put up a fight
The finer woman stays true to her seven point plan
She holds up her sisters and united they stand
The true essence of a finer woman lies within our, us, we
The true essence of a finer woman is in Z PHI B

I am Divine.

Gently graceful, yet elusively powerful.

The blood of kings and queens flows through my veins.

My ancestors ruled under royal blue skies and bright white stars.

In the company of my sisters, I serve others selflessly.

We are sorors, scholars and finer women.

The spirit of our precious pearls guides me, their light shines within me ever so brightly.

I am the living dream of my founders.

A lady of true style and grace, you will find none greater.

Make way for this Royal woman of Zeta Phi Beta.

Zeta Phi Beta no sweeter words could pass from one's lips. As tingling sensations flow through my body and finally from my fingertips. When I think of finer womanhood a lady of Zeta stands out. When I think of sisterly love My thoughts are of Zeta no doubt. When I think of scholarship a Zeta is there. And as for community service why, Zeta's are everywhere. And when I think of true family without a doubt Zeta Phi Beta Sigma leaves me with a shout. The love I have for my sisters you see is very clear. Because, no one could ever take the place of a Zeta, my dear. --Author Unknown

Who is a Zeta Lady?

A Zeta Lady is strong and determined. There are no forces of human powers that can stop her. A Zeta Lady means that she can be her own entity. There is no hatred in her heart. Being a Zeta Lady means that God is the center of her life. Her body is the housing of the holy spirit. A Zeta Lady is love, for she is able to generate and receive love. She is peaceful, kind, and understanding. Being a Zeta lady means giving of herself to others, asking for nothing in return. She is willing to sacrifice even her own life for the liberation of God's people for His name's sake. Whatever she may accomplish, it's for the glorification of God's Kingdom. A Zeta Lady is creative and productive. God is the source of her strength. Being a Zeta Lady means that she can be the very best that she can be. Finer womanhood is a gift from God. She knows that if she died this instant, all would be well with her soul. Finer womanhood means wholeness in spirit, mind, and body. A Zeta Lady is an asset to her home, church, and community. A Zeta Lady has a positive attitude. A Zeta Lady tells herself that she is beautiful.

The Heart of a Sigma Man

The heart of a Sigma is cunning, bold, loving, and true. Not red, ink or green but the extravagant ROYAL BLUE. It's as beautiful as the sky on a clear summer night. The crescent moon and stars; the coalition of BLUE and WHITE. The heart of Sigma is challenged daily and is often misunderstood. but still won't be denied the title of the Epitome of FinerWomenhood. Our bond is inexplicable, there is none greater. The heart of a SIGMA is none other than a ZETA.

ZETAS ~~ GOD's CREATION

God made Zetas free of selfishness,
With a sense of loyalty, sisterhood, and steadfastness.
He gave them ideals strong and true,
Then he named their colors ~~ white and true blue.

He sent them out over all His land
To give to girl, boy, woman and man.
To give to all the gift of self,
He said, "Just give love if you have nothing else."

He said, "Render all service with hearts that are warm;
Give a sense of belonging, refuge from the storm."
He told them, "Serve ALL of my people well,
Help ALL of my children to the highest excel."

Then He said, "Through it all, never let out a sigh;
You should walk with pride, hold your head up high,
Have faith in Me, yourself, and your sisters dear~~
You should feel honored, You are a Zeta ~~ R A R E."

A ZETA WOMAN

A while ago, a Zeta woman,
Stepped out into a storm,
The weather cleared, the sun came out
And the world, again, was warm.

And that very same Zeta woman,
Dressed in Blue and White,
Declared she would serve and serve she did
Always ~~ day and night.

That Zeta woman ~~ loyal,
Visited a far away place,
She represented the Sisters back home,
In the best of Zeta taste.

No one had ever heard
That Zeta woman's name.
No one cared, it didn't matter,
Because she wore her Zeta crown of fame.

-- Soror Dorothy Wilder, 1980

 LIKE A DOVE...

My heart pondered and tried to find
The three letters of what a true woman could be defined
With a fervent heart I prayed
But my mind became agitated with ambiguous thoughts often delayed
An answer came like a rushing mighty wind
And released voices I dared not to defend
I searched and searched only to see
That Zeta Phi Beta was just for me
The service, the deeds the scholarship, all others please take heed
It was indeed,
This seed
That fertilized my aspirations
So I made reservations
I paused for a moment, and thought to myself, FINER WOMANHOOD
I did partake and things did work together for the good
And by all means I had to do what was right
So I joined the beautiful family of ROYAL BLUE and PURE WHITE
The judge asked me to take a stand
And she said how do you plead
I threw up my hands,
And politely said, the Lord is my Shepard and He knows what I need
My hands began to soar like wings of an eagle
And like a dove I began to fly
And a dove I'll be until the day I DIE

Dear Royal Blue and Pure White

Dear Sweet Zeta
How much love can I give
To a soul with no face
To a heart with no chest
To a spirit with no identity
Dear Royal Blue and Pure White
I am aware
In every soror's hug
In an Archonette laugh
In following the light
In the dawn of helping God's Children

Dear Sweet Zeta
How much tine can I give,
To show my sisterhood
To show my scholarship
To epitomize my Finer Womanhood,
Dear Royal Blue and Pure White
I am aware
In determination
In utter selflessness
"Pro Humanitate"
For Zeta stands for the good of mankind.

Dear Sweet Zeta,
I know that if I work,
In your great principles,
I know I shall receive
The accumulation of many stars,
Dear Royal Blue and Pure White
I am aware
My crown began with five,
Stars in faith in labour,
From honorable four,
A bright star of zeal from Arizona.

Dear Sweet Zeta,
Oh, my love can embrace
The universe we know
Evolved as your sister,
I committed my life to your ideals
MY ROYAL BLUE
MY PURE WHITE
I am aware,
That before you...we're girls,
But you make us women,
A supreme force of blue,
Intrepid females for World Class Service,
MY ROYAL BLUE
MY PURE WHITE
