University of Nueva Caceres Matriarch
Passed Away
Naga Newsday. Doña
Anita Jaucian Hernandez, widow of the former Secretary of Finance Jaime
Hernandez and Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the University
Nueva Caceres passed away during the Holy Week.
Born July 26, 1898, Doña
Anita was 100 years and 7 months old at the time of her death.
Her late husband who was the
Secretary of Finance during the administration of then President Manuel
L. Quezon, was the founder of the UNC, which celebrated its 51st foundation
anniversary this year.
Doña Anita is survived
by her children, namely Dolores H. Sison, Erlinda H. Ravanera, Jaime Hernandez,
Jr., Jesus Hernandez, and Celedonio J. Monterola, daughters-in-law Natividad,
Helen, and Marina; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Another daughter,
Pura H. Bocaling, died earlier.
Final respects for the deceased
were given by the University administration, faculty, non-teaching personnel,
students, relatives and friends as her mortal remains laid in state at
the UNC Chapel.
Holy Mass was held in her honor
last Easter Sunday at the Peñafrancia Basilica Minore, with Msgr.
Leonardo Z. Legaspi, OP, DD, Archbishop of Caceres as celebrant.
Interment followed after the
mass at the Hernandez mausoleum at the Sto. Niño Memorial Park in
Naga City.
