April 26, 2006 - Wednesday

Sunny day, quite warm.

I went to bed last night at a reasonable (for me) time, but I couldn't sleep. I tossed a bit, but I tried not to wake up Fumihiko. He was sleeping quite well for the first time in days. I was glad of that. Finally I did nod off and when Fumihiko's alarm went off in the morning I was sleeping quite soundly.

My alarm went off at 9am and I got up right away. Surprising? Yeah, to me too! I made the bed and watched some news. Then I got busy making tonight's dinner. I was going to do a roast in my slow cooker. I was preparing everything and it was going quite well when I realized that I'd mixed up the curry powder with the dry mustard powder. Luckily I had just dumped the powder into the mix, I hadn't stirred it yet. I grabbed another spoon and took out as much of the curry as I could! Then, I put the mustard in, plus a little extra because I like it tangy.

While I was preparing the roast I was watching a really fascinating documentary from Canada about sugar. The history, the problems with it, everything. It was good. I wished that I had taped it to make my sugar-addicted husband watch!

I spent some quality time on the computer and then decided to take a nap. I was so tired from last night. I had settled in on the couch but wasn't asleep yet, when I heard the outside door open. Fumihiko had come home. I was surprised and felt a little guilty, but I was so tired I didn't care what he thought.

After a while he went to see two doctors, one to have an MRI, the other to have the results read. I'm pretty sure that he has sciatica...not that I'm a doctor or anything.

He came back later and then we went out to the Mikawa Mall. We wanted to pay for our holiday. I also had a few requests. I was hoping that we could use another hotel, but it looks like we can't. Sigh. I hope it's good. When I leave the country, I like to leave Japan too, not take it with me!

We bought a few groceries. I'm going to try and make another new dish tomorrow, a sort of chicken curry thing. It sounds good, but I'm a tad nervous. I might have to buy more curry powder too. Oops.

At home I got dinner "on the table". I took the roast out, thickened the sauce, stirfried the asparagus/mushroom mix, set the table, made Fumihiko make coffee, and boiled some low-carb pasta for myself. I was busy! Dinner was really good. The meat was almost too tender, it fell apart when I tried to take it out of the pot. The sauce was good and I couldn't taste any curry - whew. The pasta though, was kind of horrible! It has been a long time since I ate real pasta, but I don't think it tasted like that.

The rest of the evening we spent watching tv. We watched Monday's ER and then I watched Without a Trace. Fumihiko talked all through that one. Sigh.

We also tried to book a hotel on the net in Sendai for the night before we leave, otherwise we'll have to leave Tsuruoka at a hideously early time on the takeoff day. We didn't manage because everything is totally booked up. It's a pain.

And that was my day. It was okay, but I'm pretty tired. Still, I might stay up and watch a movie that's on tonight. Maybe! Night.
