August 23, 2006 - Wedneday

Hot and humid, cloudy too.

Another exciting day. Not! I overslept, sort of on purpose as it was a non-working day for me, then got up and did a load of laundry. I also prepared my soon to be world famous cucumber-yogurt salad. I didn't realize until I read the comments on my comment site that someone asked for the recipe, so I'll add that at the bottom of this.

I watched last night's episode of Hustle this morning. Darn good. I love British shows, they are so well written.

I ate lunch (taco omelette) and watched a whole dvd of Friends. It was fun, and I hadn't seen all of the episodes before. I'm really enjoying watching them like this, no commercials, and back to back. Yeah. I had an avocado, well, half of one again with wasabi. An ex-student told me about that and it is so good. Of course, she eats oatmeal with soy sauce, so I'm not sure about all of her advice!

I did dishes and just hacked around on my computer, not actually hacking anything though, I'm not that kind of person!

After Fumihiko came home I started dinner. Tonight was to be pork kimchee, but when I got out the kimchee, it was a month past it's expiry date. Ooops! I made Fumihiko go out and get more! I chopped up and onion and also made coffee while he was gone. I set the table and did all the other prep work for dinner. When he returned he cut up the kimchee and then I tossed it in the fry pan with the onion, pork and stirred it all up. When it was nearly cooked I added an egg and stirred that around too. We ate pork-kimchee with daikon salad and cucumber yogurt salad. It was all pretty good.

Fumihiko did the dishes and I went out for a walk. I just had to get out of the house. I had a lot of anger building up, not for anything that he said or did, just "cause". A good brisk walk around the block really helped cure me.

When I came back we watched Monday night's ER. Carter went to Paris, Luka and his nurse girlfriend went to see a couple's therapist. As she was talking to the therapist, I could totally understand what she was angry about. It's the same kind of thing that I get angry with my hubby about. He never talks about anything!

After ER we watched the tale end of the movie on, it was the Disney movie with Lindsey Lohan and Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson. The one with the twins. It was cute. I've seen part of it before.

I spent the last few minutes IM-ing a friend in Edmonton, that's fun. Even faster than email, but sometimes confusing too.

I think I might go to bed at a decent time tonight as I do have plans tomorrow for lunch. I'm meeting the afore mentioned oatmeal-soy sauce eater, but I somehow don't think we'll be having oatmeal for lunch. It's not done here! Wish us luck!

Gotta go, night night.

Oh, wait, the recipe. There are a lot of variations of this recipe, but it's lovely in summer as it's very cool, plus it goes well with anything spicy. The coolness of the yogurt balances spicy food. This recipe seems to come from a range of places, from India to Greece.

Ingredients are....
2 cucumbers, peeled, and sliced. If using larger, non-Japanese cucumbers, quarter the slices.
Plain yogurt, about 1 cup
1 teaspoon dried dill, or a couple of teaspoons of fresh dill *
Salt and pepper - little bit.
Combine ingredients. Chill. I like to let it sit in the fridge for a few hours to get the herbs absorbed and let them blend.
*I found the one teaspoon of dried dill to be too little. I added more for tomorrow!

Other variations I have tried is to use fresh mint leaves (12 or so!) instead of the dill, or adding the mint leaves and 2 cloves of crushed garlic to the yogurt. The mint/garlic one was my husband's favourite.
