For: Monday 18th June 2001
LIVE from Tampa
in sunny, wildfire-infested Florida, the
WWF burns up the mat with RAW is WAR! We
start with a look at Stone Cold's
desperate attempt at getting out of the
Triple Threat Match at KotR, and the
trouble it got him in with Little Spike
Dudley, and consequently, Jericho and
Benoit.
Spike Dudley
Interview
-The pyros add to Florida's heat, while
JR welcomes us to the last Raw before
King of the RIng and announces tonights
Main Event: Austin and the Dudleys vs.
Spike, Jericho and Benoit. The D-Bombs
drop, and out comes Little Spike with his
gal Molly Holly. Spike gets his hands on
a mic. Never in his wildest dreams did he
think he would get a WWF Title shot. But
last week, he did just that. He may not
have won, but he was in the ring with the
WWF Champion...and he liked it! But it
wasn't good enough for Stone Cold. He had
to come back in after the match and
attempt to hit Molly with a chair. He
made Spike do something he never thought
he would do: call out Stone Cold Steve
Austin. The glass breaks, and down the
ramp comes the WWF Champion, Stone Cold.
Austin gets right in the ring and takes a
mic, while Spike makes sure he is between
Austin and Molly. Austin asks who the
hell Spike thinks he is. "My name is
Spike Dudley!". Well Stone Cold
Steve Austin isn't about to let a punk
come out and challenge him to a Title
defense. Spike says the he already did.
Austin says that it's not fair. Look at
him, and then look at Austin. It's not a
fair fight. Spike asks the crowd to give
him a hell yeah if the crowd wants him to
fight Stone Cold. Austin tells him that
he doesn't deserve to be in the same ring
with the WWF Champ, much less get another
Title shot. But, Austin will admit that
Spike has guts, more than anyone in the
back, to call out Stone Cold Steve Austin.
He showed Austin a lot, but as much guts
as he has, Molly's still a bimbo. Spike
demands that Austin take it back. Austin
calls her a two dollar tramp. He then
mocks her in front of her face, so Molly
comes back with a slap across the face.
Austin laughs it off, saying that they
both earned his respect, even Molly.
Austin seems to be having some trouble
speaking when he says this. He extends
his hand, and Spike reluctantly returns
the gesture. Austin then extends it to
Molly, but Stunners her instead! Austin
storms out of the ring while Spike aids
his girlfriend. Fade Out.
During the break,
Austin was storming the halls when he ran
into BuhBuh and D-Von. The Dudleys stand
up, but don't say or do anything.
As we come back,
the Dudleys find Spike and Molly. BuhBuh
gives Spike credit for standing up for
himself, his girl, and what he believed
in. But they ask why he's been here a few
months and got a Title shot, while
they've been here over a year and have
got collectively two. Spike says that
they don't care about Molly or him at
all, but they say that there's nothing he
can do about it. And then something odd
happens. They announce a Tag Title match
between Jericho and Benoit against the
Dudleys. But what about our Main Event,
JR? Anyway...
Jeff Hardy vs.
Kurt Angle [KOTR Quarterfinal]
-Our first match is also the first
official match of the 2001 King of the
Ring! Reigning King Kurt Angle comes out,
followed by a lone Jeff Hardy. Jeff hits
a shoulder block to start, but Angle
comes back with an overhead belly to
belly, and then a German suplex. Angle
takes out Jeff's knee, but misses a
baseball slide to the outside. On the
outside, Jeff runs the railing and leaps
onto Angle. Back in the ring, Jeff makes
a cover 1-2-shoulder up. Angle pulls Jeff
in and hits another German suplex, then
goes for the Olympic Slam, but Jeff
floats out. Big boot by Jeff, then the
double legdrop. Chinbreaker by Jeff, who
goes up top, but Angle rolls away. Jeff
drops down from the turnbuckle and
immediatley gets hit with an Angle
clothesline. Angle goes up for the
moonsault, but Jeff rolls away. Jeff goes
up top and hits the Swanton Bomb 1-2-foot
on the ropes! Jeff goes back up, but
Angle pulls him off by the leg and locks
in the AngleLock, forcing Jeff to tap!
One of, if not the favorite to win the
King of the Ring, has been eliminated!
Angle will now face either Big Show or
Christian.
In the back,
Austin is pacing in his dressing room. He
says that he needs a friend and confidant.
Debra says that she's there, but he says
he needs someone that understands. He
asks what she understands about being a
Champion. She says she was Women's Champ,
but he just laughs and walks away. Fade
Out.
In Regal's
office, The Commissioner is explaining to
Tajiri about his match against Rhyno
tonight, when Austin comes in. Regal
tells him that Spike wanted a match
against him. Austin asks if he needs to
defend the Title. Regal says that he
decided on the Spike, Benoit and Jericho
vs. Austin and the Dudleys, saying that
the Tag Title match will wait until
SmackDown. Austin says that's fine, but
that he came to get someone he could
confide in. Regal says that he's there
for him, but Austin says he was speaking
about Tajiri, or as Austin says, Tie
Geary.
In the back
Michael Cole asks Tazz about Tough Enough.
Tazz says that, tomorrow, WWF New York
will have a sneak preview that is open to
the public. Hardcore Holly comes up and
asks what Tazz knows about being tough.
They exchange words before deciding they
should fight tonight.
We go live to
WWFNY, where word has it, Kane is. We see
a young kid lose at the "claw game".
Kane tries and fails as well. So Kane
punches through the glass and gives the
kid an armful of the toys.
JR says that
Undertaker is at home with Sara, with the
idea of not letting her out of his sight.
We get clips of all the "stalker
tapes" that have been shown so far.
Tazz vs. Hardcore
Holly
-In the arena, Hardcore Holly's music
hits, and he comes out for the newly
signed match. Just then, the stalker's
voice hits. He says that he is in Tampa
right now, but yesterday he was with
Undertaker and Sara, as we see video shot
of Taker and his wife getting in their
truck before driving off. The stalker
says that, tonight, there will be no more
disguising his voice or his face.
Tonight, the world will find out who he
is. He just wishes that Sara was here
with him. Fade Out. Tazz's music and pyro
hit, and Tazz makes his long awaited
return to the ring. Holly attacks right
off the bat, and hits the Textbook
Dropkick. Holly with a swift kick to the
stomach by Holly, then a scoop slam.
Hardcore goes up top for a leg drop and
hits it 1-2-kickout. Hardcore comes up
with a suplex, but Hardcore reverses an
Irish Whip for a powerslam 1-2-kickout.
Tazz ducks out of a Hardcore leap and
locks in the Tazzmission, bringing
Hardcore to the mat for the win!
In the back,
Austin explains to Tajiri that Vince's
wife is running both their lives. Stone
Cold would never let a woman run his life.
Tajiri chimes in with expressions and
nods. Austin lets Tajiri hold the WWF
Title belt for a while, much to Tajiri's
happiness. Austin asks Tajiri what the
solution is. Tajiri nods, smiling. Austin
says that Tajiri is a wise man and has
helped him a lot. Regal comes in and
tells Tajiri that his King of the Ring
match is up next. Fade Out.
In the back, Edge
says that he's sorry that he pushed
Christian down, but wants to know why
Christian used his move. Christian says
that he wasn't pushed, but wonders when
Edge invented the Spear. They say that
they're glad they might fight each other
in the Finals. Angle comes in and tells
them to stop fighting, since they have no
chance of beating him on his conquest to
repeating as King.
Rhyno vs. Tajiri
[KOTR Quarterfinal]
-In the arena, Rhyno comes down, followed
by Tajiri, who comes out with Regal to
Regal's music. Rhyno attacks with chops,
taking Tajiri down, then going for a
powerbomb, but Tajiri counters to a
hurricanrana. Beautiful Asai Moonsault by
Tajiri to regain control. Rhyno comes out
of nowhere with a spinebuster 1-2-shoulder
up. Tajiri hits the springboard back
elbow, then rolls up Rhyno for a two
count. Kick by Tajiri, and he then locks
in the Octopus. Rhyno goes to the ropes
to break the hold, but Tajiri grabs the
ropes and locks in the Tarantula! Tajiri
goes for a roundhouse kick, but Rhyno
ducks it and powerbombs him. Rhyno backs
up for the Gore. He runs at Tajiri, who
comes with a kick out of nowhere, taking
Rhyno out. Tajiri looks for the pin, but
Regal tells him to go up top. Tajiri
does, but isn't sure what to do. He jumps
back down, only to land in a Rhyno Gore 1-2-3!
Rhyno emerges victorious, and will face
either Saturn or Edge. Fade Out.
In the back,
Regal is giving Tajiri the verbal
beatdown for losing the match.
The Stalker
Revealed
-In the arena, Limp Bizkit hits. A
motorcycle emerges on the ramp, but the
rider is a masked man, wearing all black
and a ski mask. He gets in the ring,
while none of the lights are on. He holds
his hand up, Taker style for a while
before the lights return. He pulls off
the mask, and reveals himself to be none
other than Diamond Dallas Page! The man
who drove the Honky Tonk Man to
WrestleMania 6 has been stalking the
Undertaker! He says that, like the
Diamond Cutter, Undertaker never saw this
coming. Those that know him are asking
why DDP went after the Undertaker like
this. The answer is that, if you want to
make an impact, you have to go after the
biggest, baddest dog in the yard. Once
you find that dog, if you want to get the
best of him, you make it personal. Taker
is of course the dog. And he's been
telling people that this is his yard. But
up until a few weeks ago, the Undertaker
has never shown weakness. That was up
until he told Stone Cold that if he ever
messed with his family, he'd make him
famous. "Taker, you idiot, Austin is
already famous!" But when he said
what he said about his family, the Dead
Man sounded very much alive. Think about
it. Remember when the Undertaker used to
say, "I've slept through things that
make people's hair turn grey". Taker
is now a liar. He was running around his
house, locking the doors and windows. He
probably called up Vince, begging for the
night off. Diamond Dallas Page has made
Undertaker's wife famous. But no one
deserves to be more famous than DDP. His
whole life, people have told him that
until he's been to the top of the
business, he's never been famous. He's
using the Undertaker to get famous. And
no matter what he has to do to get there,
he'll see Taker at King of the Ring. He's
begging the Undertaker to make him famous.
DDP rolls out of the ring and escapes
through the fans. Fade Out.
As we come back,
JR and Heyman discuss the ramifications
of DDP's Invasion.
Edge vs. Saturn [KOTR
Qualifying]
-E&C's music hits, and the bajillion
time WWF Tag Champs come down the ramp.
The siren blares, and Perry and Terri
come down the ramp, Perry seeming playful
tonight. Saturn comes right at Edge with
punches and a back elbow. Saturn ducks a
big boot and brings Edge down, before
going outside to hit Christian. He comes
back in, allowing Edge to gain momentum
by attacking while he's down. Clothesline
by Edge 1-2-shoulder up. Irish Whip by
Edge, followed by some elbows. Kick by
Edge and a clothesline 1-2-shoulder up.
Perry comes up with a nice double arm
roll-up 1-2-kickout. Scoop slam by Edge,
who goes outside and up the turnbuckle.
Saturn kicks the flying Edge and hits a
belly-belly. Saturn hits a clothesline
and then rams Edge into the turnbuckle.
He goes up top and hits a flying cross
body, but Edge rolls though 1-2-kickout.
Kick by Saturn and then the spinning
Fisherman's Suplex 1-2-broken by
Christian. Edge almost runs into
Christian, and quickly ducks the
Superkick, which hits Christian. Edge
takes advantage of the situation and hits
a DDT 1-2-3!
In the back,
Vince pulls up in his Hawaiian shirt.
Someone asks how he is. He responds that
he jsut went through the ringer with his
wife's divorce attorneys, and asks where
Austin is. Fade Out.
Matt Hardy vs.
Albert
-Matt comes out with his gal Lita to
defend his belt. The lights turn to
purple, and the big man that got
everything he ever wanted, Albert, comes
down the ramp. Albert, fresh off an IC
Title shot, is now gunning for the Euro
Title. Punches and kicks in the corner by
Albert. Matt comes out of the corner,
only to be clotheslined down. Missed
headbutt by Albert allows Matt to get in
some offense before being tossed down.
Drop toe hold by Matt, who gets kicked
out of the ring. On the outside, Albert
rams his knee into Matt on the barrier
before rolling him back in the ring 1-2-kickout
1-2-kickout. Albert misses a ram, but
catches Matt and presses him. However,
Matt drops down before Albert can
complete the slam. DDT by Matt 1-2-shoulder
up. Albert powers out of an attempted
Twist of Fate and clotheslines Matt back
down 1-2-shoulder up. Catapult into the
ropes by Albert, followed by the blatant
choke. However, Albert refuses to break
the choke, causing the DQ Bell. Lita runs
in to stop him, but it only makes Albert
mad. He sets Albert up for the Baldo
Bomb, but Lita low blows him. Twist of
Fate on Albert as JC and Pac run in.
Final Impact to Matt. Jeff storms in,
only to be overpowered three on one,
ending with a Baldo Bomb.
In the back,
Vince sits down with Austin. He asks how
Austin feels, and Austin says that he's
good. Vince says that, physically, Austin
is great, but wonders about his mental
health. Last week, he had a chill down
his spine. That hug that Austin gave him
felt weird. And then he saw the replay
and looked at Austin's eyes. Austin says
it was just a good old fashion hug. Vince
turns to the petition, saying that Austin
knew that Linda would never change his
mind. The thing that concerns him most is
that Austin decided to defend the WWF
Title without consulting him. Austin says
that he can make decisions on his own.
Vince asks what the hell Austin is
thinking about tonight's six-man tag.
Austin says that Tajiri was right about
Vince. Vince needs to choose between him
and Linda, and he better make up his mind
quick. Fade Out.
During the break,
Vince got in his limo and drove off.
In the back,
Spike thanks Benoit and Jericho for
helping Molly last week. Benoit says that
they didn't care about him or Molly.
They're less than a week away from the
biggest match of their lives. This isn't
about him. Benoit goes off on him, but
then utters the "I am Stone Cold
Steve Austin" line, letting us know
that it was just a joke.
In the back,
Rhyno and Edge are talking about getting
into the semifinals. Christian complains
that Rhyno beat a guy in his second
match, while Edge beat a guy that eats
mustard and crayons. Edge and Christian
get into a scuffle over people hitting
moves correctly, but Rhyno breaks it up,
saying that even if Christian wins
tonight, he'll face Angle. And Angle is
the superhero who's going to repeat no
matter what, so why do they even bother.
Wow, Rhyno has gone from a guy who can
barely speak to one who has mastered the
art of sarcasm. Nicely done, Rhyno. Fade
Out.
Big Show vs.
Christian [KOTR Quarterfinal]
-Kurt Angle is taking a seat at the
announce table as we come back. He says
he's watching because one of these two
men will be his first opponent at King of
the Ring. Well, it's the Big Show...who
comes down first, followed by the second
ringside appearance by Edge and Christian.
Christian attacks Show from behind to
start, but Show just tosses him into the
corner, and then tosses him even harder
out of the corner. Show grabs Edge and
gives him the Final Cut and goes outside
for more damage. He picks up Edge and
drops him on the barrier. Christian comes
to the outside, but Show press slams him
back in. Christian pounds away at Show,
but Show drops him face first on the mat.
Show does some step aerobics using
Christians body before rolling it out of
the ring. On the outside, Show straight-arms
Kurt Angle down and then goes back inside.
Show lifts Christian up for a
ShowStopper, while Angle has the ref
distracted. Edge comes in with a chair
and nails Show. Christian gets a chair
and they hit Show with the ConChairTo 1-2-3!
So at the King of the Ring PPV, Christian
will face Kurt Angle, while Rhyno will
take on Edge. Big night for Team RECK.
Fade Out.
Spike Dudley,
Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho vs.
Dudley Boyz & Steve Austin
-The D-Bombs drop for the second time
tonight, and Little Spike Dudley comes
down the ramp, Molly-less. Benoit's music
hits, and one-half of the Tag Champs
comes down. The New and Improved Y2J
Countdown hits 0.00, and the other half
of the Tag Champs, the Ayatollah, Chris
Jericho comes down. The D-Bombs drop for
the third time, and this time the Dudley
Boys come out to face, in part, their
younger brother. The glass breaks and the
WWF Champion comes down. Jericho and
BuhBuh start this one out with a lock up.
Shoulder block by BuhBuh, then some chops.
Jericho fires back in the corner and hits
a hiptoss. Clothesline by Jericho, but
BuhBuh flapjacks him onto the ropes. Tag
to D-Von. Double flapjack by the Dudleys,
and D-Von starts stomping away. Jumping
roundhouse by Jericho and he makes the
tag to Benoit. Low knee by Benoit and a
big boot, followed by a German suplex.
Chops by Benoit and a tag to Spike, who
climbs the turnbuckle and pikes onto his
brother. Hurricanrana by Spike and a big
boot. He goes off the second rope, but D-Von
clotheslines him out of the air. D-Von
goes to tag BuhBuh, but Austin tags
himself in instead. Stomps by Austin and
rakes of the ears and eyes. Spike floats
over a back suplex, and Austin gets hit
by Jericho and Benoit. Spike goes for a
dropkick, but Austin holds back. Spike
tries desperately for a roll-up and
eventually gets it 1-2-kickout. Austin
fires up with a clothesline and starst
slapping Spike around. Reverse chin lock
by Austin, as the Dudleys go out and set
up two tables outside the ring. Austin
demands to konw what's going on, allowing
Spike to roll him up 1-2-kickout. Austin
angrily tags in BuhBuh, who slaps his
little brother around. Huge back body
drop by BuhBuh, then a hair slam. Spike
torpedoes his head into his brother, but
BuhBuh takes him down and allows D-Von to
hit the Wassup Headbutt on his little
brother. Back elbow by D-Von, who tags
BuhBuh back in. Knockdown punches by
BuhBuh, who goes second rope and misses
the leg drop. Both sides a re calling for
a tag and Austin gets one, as does Benoit.
Back elbow by Benoit. German suplex to
BuhBuh. Stomps by Benoit, as Jericho hits
a missile dropkick on BuhBuh. Flying
forearm to D-Von, as Benoit is still
stomping away at Austin. Jericho hits a
springboards shoulder block onto D-Von,
knocking him through the table! In the
ring, Spike hits the Acid Drop on BuhBuh,
meanwhile Benoit hits one German suplex,
and another, and another. He calls for
the end and goes up top, but Austin rolls
away from the Diving Headbutt. Exchange
of punches, and Austin low blows Benoit.
Austin knocks a returning Jericho off the
apron, and he starts the mounted punches
on Benoit. Stomp to the groin by Austin,
and he continues with stomps to the
midsection. Spike runs in and goes for
the Acid Drop, but Austin stops him in
mid air and tosses him through the other
table! Austin goes back to Benoit with
the mounted punches, but then pushes away
Earl Hebner. Austin realizes no one is
there to ref and gets a chair. Jericho
runs in and steals the chair. Jericho
unleashes a fury of mounted punches on
Austin before locking in the Walls of
Jericho. Benoit comes over and locks in
the Crippler as well! Austin taps like
crazy, but Hebner takes his sweet time
before calling for the bell. But the bell
doesn't stop Benoit and Jericho, as they
continue with the hold until we fade out.
End Show.
