For: Thursday 21st June 2001
First of all, no Tazz. I guess a
sneak preview of Tough Enough is more important
that SmackDown... So the announcers (for the time
being...more on that later), are Michael Cole and
Paul Heyman.
Video of Taker's Stalker problems with the DDP
revelation thrown in start the show.
Kurt Angle comes down the ramp to start the real
show. The begining of his segment was drowned out
by boos, but when it quieted down, he was going
on about him being a superhero, while Shane is a
mere mortal. Kurt was talking to his buddy Shaq,
who left the Orlando Magic for the Lakers, where
he recently won back to back championships. Shaq
was telling Angle how good it felt to repeat, and
that's what Angle plans to do at King of the Ring.
All four members of Team RECK being left is a
great thing, but they are just kids, while he is
a man. This brings Edge and Christian out. They
go back and forth with E&C-isms on the word
dork, which describes Angle. They didn't come
this far to lay down for Angle. They're in it to
win. Edge says that if Christian doesn't beat
Angle in the semis, then he'll gladly whoop Angle
in the finals. This pisses off Christian, for
Edge doubting his ability to win. Christian says
that after he disposes of Angle, he'll gladly
take on Edge in the Finals. Angle gets in the
middle of this, and demands and appology from
them. E&C don't appogize. Just as Angle is
getting ready to hit them, Rhyno comes out. Rhyno
gets right in Angle's face, and says that they
don't need him, nor did they ever. He says that
the three of them (Edge, Christian and Rhyno)
will do everything they can to make sure Angle
doesn't repeat. As he finishes the sentence, he
turns and gores Christian. Meanwhile, Angle hits
the Olympic Slam on Edge and gets up the ramp
before Rhyno can turn to him.
Outside, the Undertaker is waiting with his wife
Sara.
In the back, Molly and Spike talk about how Spike
has to fight the Big Show as punishment for his
actions. He tells Molly that for both her good
and his, she needs to stay in the back. She
agrees, and they lock in their longest kiss to
date.
Big Show vs. Spike Dudley:
Show begins the match, simply manhandling Spike.
His chops rip Spike's shirt. He tosses him from
corner to corner. Show even press slams Spike out
of the ring. On the outside, Spike gains a bit of
an advantage, but by the time they get back in,
he's nearly gone. Show sets Spike up for a
ShowStopper, but Spike wriggles out of it and
hits the Acid Drop. But just when he seems to
have an advantage, his brothers D-Von and BuhBuh
run down and 3-D him. Show gets up and hits the
Show Stopper 1-2-3!
Outside, Taker and Sara get ready as a limo pulls
up, but it is Vince who gets out. Vince says that
he won't let DDP in the arena again. Taker says
that he wants DDP in. He demands that Vince make
sure that security let him in so that he can beat
the hell out of DDP.
The Hardy Boys & Kane vs. X-Factor
Before the match officially gets underway, Albert
and Kane have a staredown worthy of any Taker/Kane
staredown. Anyway, the match continues very
evenly until Jeff gets tagged and he cleans house.
Kane Chokeslams X-Pac and then battles Albert out
of the ring, allowing Jeff to hit the Swanton on
Pac 1-2-3!
In the back, Austin walks in on Vince. Austin
demands an answer to his "Me or Linda"
ultimatum. Vince says that this type of thing
requires lots of thinking, but hints that he'll
side with Austin. Austin, as a sign of gratitude,
gives Vince his favorite hunting bow and a Stone
Cold hat.
Outside, Taker and Sara are still waiting for DDP.
Taker gets so mad he starts smashing stuff.
In Regal's office, Tajiri is watching tape from
his last match and starts to see that Regal cost
him the match, when Regal himself bursts in. He
turns off the tape and tells Tajiri that he did
nothing wrong last match. Kaientai burst in, and
Taka demands a WWF Title match. Regal of course
shoots him down, so Taka demands a Light
Heavyweight Title match. Regal shoots this down
because Jeff Hardy just fought. Taka gets angry
at Regal, so Tajiri attacks him.
In the back, Debra and Stone Cold visit with
Vince again. Debra gives Vince a huge plate of
cookies, which she spent all night baking. Austin
makes Vince eat one, and though he face says
they're disgusting, Vince says that they're great.
Austin is surprised since he thinks they're crap.
Funny stuff.
Edge & Christian vs. Rhyno & Kurt Angle
They may all be members of Team RECK, but no one
held back for an instant in this one. Decent
match. Chrisitan goes to clothesline Rhyno, but
hits Edge accedentally. Rhyno takes advantage by
Goring both Christian and Edge, although Angle
slips in for the pin. As he celebrates, Shane
comes in from the crowd with some sort of large
stick and nails Angle repeatedly. He fends off
the security for a while before making a mad dash
through the crowd.
In the back, Austin gives Vince a framed photo of
"The Handshake" from WrestleMania X-Seven,
and then sings "That's What Friends Are For".
Austin comes out and down the ramp, but makes a
bee-line for the announce table. Austin gets
right up in Michael Cole's face and smacks Cole's
microphone off. Austin says that he's pissed that
Cole says he has little chance of retaining at
King of the Ring. He is also pissed that Cole has
called Vince McMahon "the devil". He
forces Cole to stand up and look him in the eye.
Austin says that he's not going to kick Cole's
ass for his comments about his chances at KotR,
but he will kick Cole's ass for the comments
about Vince. He starts just by slapping Cole
around some, then starts pushing him down and
kicking him. He smashes Cole up against the
barrier and forces him to say "Yes sir,
Stone Cold". Austin then proceeds to lay a
beating of Cole reminiscent of the JR beating,
but with less blood.
Perry and Terri are in Regal's office. Regal says
that he is giving Perry a Hardcore Title shot
against Test for Test's comments about WCW. Perry
- "Doggies eat applesauce to save the ozone
layer". Regal thinks about this, and tells
Perry that Test says that the doggies eat
kumquats. This gets Perry upset, and he says that
he'll teach Test.
In the back, Austin is looking around for Vince,
but can't find him.
Test vs. Perry Saturn (Hardcore Title)
A couple great shots with a mop by Perry. Saturn
starts to gain an advantage, but flies off the
top, only to get nailed in the head with a stop
sign. This starts a string of near falls.
Finally, Saturn starts to regain the advantage
and gets another mop, but Test hits the Big Boot,
sending the mop into Perry's face 1-2-3! Test
retains. After the match, Perry grabs the mop
head and strokes it as he leaves Terri behind.
In the back, Kane tells Taker that he's got his
brother's back if any WCWers show up tonight.
Also in the back, Austin is told that Vince has
left the building.
Taker and Sara make their way to the ring. Taker
begins by asking "Who in the hell is DDP?"
He explains that DDP is going to get the beating
of a lifetime. DDP went through all this trouble
to get made famous. And it just might happen.
But, Undertaker asks, why isn't DDP famous
already? Well, he answers, it's because he sucks.
DDP is a half-assed wrestler from a nothing
promotion. The Undertaker has a list of all the
people whose ass he has kicked. DDP's name is
going at the very top. The reason is that DDP is
going to get without a doubt, the biggest,
hardest ass whooping Taker has ever given out. He
knows that DDP isn't man enough to be here
tonight, so he's going to hope Page is watching
at home when he begs DDP to come to King of the
Ring.
DDP's voice hits, and everyone looks around.
Finally, he reveals that he is at the
Undertaker's house. He proceeds to give us the
grand DDP tour. He ends up in the bedroom, where
after going through Sara's undergarments, he
bounces on the bed, begging Taker to make him
famous.
In the back, Austin gets into Vince's dressing
room and finds all the gifts he has given tonight
are laying about.
Tajiri vs. Taka
Taka says that Tajiri's display of Japanese
steroptypes is disgraceful. Indeed. Taka gets in
a very nice Asai Moonsault after some Funaki
interference. Tajiri gets in both the handspring
rope elbow and the Tarantula before finishing off
Taka with what I like to call, "The Kick of
Death". Afterwards, Regal comes in to
congratulate Tajiri, who tries to hug Regal, much
to his dismay.
Main Event: Jericho & Benoit vs. The Dudleys
(Tag Titles)
Benoit gets in some impressive German suplexes
and overhead belly-bellies on BuhBuh. He locks in
the Crippler Crossface on D-Von a few times, but
BuhBuh keeps breaking the hold. The Dudleys hit
the Wassup Headbutt on Benoit, and D-Von goes and
sets up a table in front of the announce table.
BuhBuh Bomb on Benoit, and Jericho goes and sets
his own table up at the foot of the ramp. Jericho
tags in and works over BuhBuh, hitting the
bulldog and the Lionsault. He locks in the Walls
of Jericho on D-Von. Benoit hits the Flying
Headbutt on BuhBuh, but D-Von breaks the pin. 3-D
on Benoit after Jericho gets knocked outside, but
he is able to come in and break the pin. The
Dudleys double team Jericho on the outside. D-Von
and Jericho battle up on top of the announce
table and D-Von sets to powerbomb Jericho through
the table, but Jericho blocks and back body drops
D-Von through his own table. BuhBuh starts
abusing Jericho on the outside, and in the
process, Hebner is knocked out. BuhBuh uses the
opportunity to hit Benoit with the ring bell, but
Benoit ducks it and locks in the Crippler
Crossface. BuhBuh taps, but Hebner is still out.
Austin runs down and nails Benoit with the Title
belt. BuhBuh rolls over as Hebner comes to 1-2-3!
The Dudleys are the New Tag Team Champions! Once
Austin sees the count has been made, he goes back
to the halls and bumps into Vince. Austin demands
to know where Vince was and the answer to his
ultimatum. Vince says that he was at the
Emergency Room with Michael Cole. Cole said that
he could very easily sue both Vince and Stone
Cold for everything they have. Because of
Austin's actions, Vince will not be in his corner
at King of the Ring. Furthermore, Vince now has
an ultimatum: either Austin retains the Title, or
their 'relationship' is over.
