F-4
The Phabulous, Phenomenal, Phantom!

This page is undergoing maintenance to correct broken links and provide better photos. page. Most of the photographs that needed to be re scanned have been uploaded. Work will continue for the next several weeks adding airplane/date/unit and location information. (08-20-22)

The USN/USMC F-4s should be complete by the second week of January, 2021. Then I can start the USAF/AFRES/ANG, which is a real monster. I have completed scanning of my Navy F-4s Thursday January 7, 2021. It will take at least another day to edit them and upload them. ANG/AFRES/USAF F-4s are in a continuous scanning cycle, it will take most of January, 2021 (and maybe even some of February) to complete. Well, it is May and I just finished scanning the last F-4Ds!
As of  17 May all USN/USMC Phantoms are scanned (F-4B/N, F-4J/S and RF-4B) and all USAF/AFRES/ANG F-4C and F-4D Phantoms. I am now working on F-4E/G, F-4F and RF-4C Phantoms. I must scan slides, resize and perform any editing prior to uploading then and adding them to the pages. This takes time. I usually scan about 50 slides, or so to start this process. With about 1,200 individual F-4s in my collection this is a time consuming task and as my time to scan is limited by other needs it means that I might only have a few photos complete per week. There is always something going on in the background. even if it is not visible.

This page connects to various photo sites for the F-4.  Each one will cover various models and services that operated the Phantom.  I will add pages and photos as time goes by.  This endeavor will grow over time and it will take years for all of the photos to be scanned and uploaded.

NOTE: While updating these sites with larger photos (ones that can actually be seen!) I am discovering numerous broken links. These are being addressed as best I am able. (Dec 2020)

Many of the photos were taken on visits to bases and airshows, but a great percentage were taken at MASDC in the 1970s/ early 80s and later AMARC, and even later AMARG.  The background can be as interesting as the main subject.

Note:  All images are saved as JPEGs.  Starting with the newer pages the file name will incorporate the aircraft type and serial or bureau number, unit, location and month date (month and year) photographed: i.e. F-4C_63-7420__111th_FIS___Ellington__Apr_86___5  =  F-4C 63-7420 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron Ellington AFB April 1986.  If there are multiple shots of the same a/c, the file would have a "_#" following the serial: i.e. The example used is the 5th shot of 7420.

Most photographs were taken by me, but some exceptions were pictures taken by Bobby Porter, Bill Spidle, Gerald McMasters and John Paul Jones. We had all at various times visited airshows together, or made trips to airbases, or just hung out taking photos. That is the reason that many Air Forces are lacking as we simply did not have the opportunity to photograph them.
