The Grolimunds came to America from Switzerland by way of Germany, France, etc..
GROLEMUND
Click to zoom on the crest.

In the mid sixties, I met an an elderly gentleman in the
Münchner Hofbräuhaus (famous German Biergarten)
who told me that
Grolemund translates from the "altdeutsch" into English as:
"Golden Mouth."

Some might say that "ANGRY MOUTH" is the modern translation.
"Ein mund der immer grollt???"
(Just turn the smile upside down.)

On the French side, another name variant was Grandmont. (Josef 1808-     )
Grandmont = Great mountain
according to the Hengy book, "Family of the Jura"

Words change their meaning over the millenia.
Combine the two meanings and maybe "BIG MOUTH" will fit, also.

See Alois' history of "Schwarzbubenland",
The Land of the Black Boys.

The original of this chart was a powerpoint from Carlos' wife, Claudia, with help from Uncle Paco (Francisco), and input from Alois in Switzerland. Tio Paco is working with Alois on more of the history. Many thanks to you, our cousins across the pond.

Memo: Jan 15, 2001 - this revised chart is still in progress.
I plan to divide and make separate branches to enlarge the 20th century families.

#4 Alois tells the story about Schwarzbubenland, The Land of the Black Boys

UPDATE: I will update later, but see the correspondence file. The Grolimunds from France, Spain and Switzerland have gotten together. And Alois from Switzerland is compiling all of the data.

Thanks, Alois.

Thanks, Carlos, Claudia, Stephan, Paco, and others.

This old note (and this page) was inserted on the web in America:

William "Bill" Grolemund in Norte Americano is searching for a missing link to connect his ancestor, John Grolemund (born 1816-Nov-25), to one of the European branches. We think John came to America from Baden in 1850. He married Catherine Greenawalt and had 13 children.

The children were: Anna Maria 1851, Joseph Anthony 1852, John S 1853, Margaret M 1855, William 1856, Julia Ann 1858, Otto James 1859, Catherine Philomena 1860, Andrew J 1862, Unnamed 1865 died at birth, Leo J 1866, Edward C 1868, Charles A 1873. Please e-mail any information to one of my contact boxes at the bottom of this page.

Thank you, cousins.

See my home page for some hidden mysteries. . .

I also have some memo items in several pages
in the Grolimund Correspondence file
of some e-mail from the European cousins.

This "hr" line is 600 wide (test). Next one is 800 wide. (Just a test.)

Okay, so here is a 1024 line, as we go into higher resolutions.

There have been   visitors
to the Grolimund European page since 2001-08-08 [lost count]
(provided by the Spanish & Swiss branches)

Memo: I patched the display for the counter on 2007-01-01.
I hope that some of you will send me a short
e-mail note.
