Animal Control & Public Works Department,7401 NW 74 Street, Miami, FL 33166 (East of the Palmetto Expressway) (305)-884-1101 x229 (front desk). The shelter's hours are 11am-7pm Monday thru Friday & 12noon-5pm Saturday and Sunday.

INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE: Microchip Implant (keeps track of your pet incase he/she is lost or stolen), shots(including rabies), spay/neuter surgery & vaccination license tag.The shelter accepts MasterCard, Visa or cash, no checks.

This is a KILL SHELTER, these animals are put to sleep(euthanized)DAILY.

A surrendered dog(meaning someone brought in the animal)can be euthanized as soon as the following day.

An impounded dog(caught by Animal Control) is held for (at least)5 days for their owners to "claim them".

During the 5 day period, anyone interested in the dog can put their name on a waiting list. The dog will become available after the 5 days. The waiting list goes by the order of the people's names (first come, first serve). Just a little note: If you find that there are names already on a waiting list, please add your name anyway. Sometimes the first couple of people on the list do not adopt the dog. If a dog's owner does not claim them & there is no one on the waiting list, the dog will be euthanized.

This shelter houses 300-400 dogs/puppies as well as 100's of cats/kittens.

Some of the dog breeds are: Dalmations, Mastiffs,Siberian Huskies, Rotties, Chows, Labs, German Shepherds, Beagles, Pit Bulls (cannot adopt out to a Miami resident), Dobermans, St. Bernards, Akitas, Jack Russel Terriers, Golden Retrievers, Poddles, Malteses, English Springer Spaniels, Boxers, Yorkies, Shih Tzu's..the list is endless. There are also a lot of mixed breeds.

Most of the kittens are mixed (grey & white striped, orange & white striped),there is a siamese adult, a long haired fluffy adult cat, a black & white adult female cat.

If anyone can help any of these animals PLEASE PLEASE email us or contact the shelter directly.

When calling the shelter for status on a dog or cat you MUST have the dogs ID # (On The WebPage:The ID # is on the back wall, behind the dog, in big black letters. At The Shelter: The ID # is on a blue collar around their neck as well as on a card that is placed on their kennel).

Most of the time when you call you will get an answering machine. Don't get discouraged, please keep calling, you need to be VERY persistant.

These animals are in need of some desperate help! They need loving permanent homes but remember, giving an animal a foster home is like giving that animal a second chance at life.
