Talk with your children!

This is not exclusive to girls; boys are at risk too. Do not fall under the assumption that if you live in a nice neighborhood it will not happen to you, because it happened to me. Many parents warn their children not to talk to strangers. But more often than not, an abuser or abductor is known to the child. He or she can be a school bus driver, teacher, relative, neighbor, or family friend. Many times the molestation occurs in the home of the victim or the abuser.  I have always talked to my daughter about "good and bad" touches, but I failed to mention that it could come from someone we know and trust.

By law, all sex offenders must register in the United States in accordance with Megan's Law and we, as residents, are entitled to view these records at any point in time (in most states).   If an offender moves to a new state, the offender is required to register in the current state of residence.

Sex offenders cannot be cured or "reformed".
The statistics show that only 1% of child molesters will not commit this crime again. Because there is not room in the penal system and they are thought of as "non-violent" offenders, they are released on a regular basis. When the parole board meets and has to choose between a man who was convicted of armed robbery or a man who was convicted of molestation, they opt for the "non-violent" offender to be set free. This is why child molesters usually only serve one-third of their sentence. Just recently Georgia passed a law requiring sex offenders to serve 90% of their sentence. Lets keep it that way and make sure it is enforced!

Nobody is going to tell you that you have a sex offender as a neighbor or a friend.  It is your obligation as a parent to keep yourself informed and play a role in your child's safety.  I have a page here on my website, with a list of states with an easy to access search for sex offenders in your area. Out of concern for those with small children, please send a link to this website to all parents that you know, and share this information with others.  Lets get the message out..

Each of us must decide whether we are going to be part of the problem (by ignoring the issue) or part of the solution. The lives of our children and their offspring depend on what we, as individuals are prepared to do about the epidemic of molestation.

If this website only saves one child, then all our effort is not in vain!
