Over a year ago I was subject to a most heinous crime: A crime against my beautiful 5-year-old daughter. As it turns out, a very close friend of the family, (Tony Allen) who was also the next door neighbor, was a convicted child molester.
When he moved in next to our family, I was not informed that a sex offender was residing next to me (do not be naive … you also may not be informed). Unaware of his past crimes, I continually invited him into my home and around my two children.  My daughter soon began to show signs of trauma:
increased aggression toward her father and I, inability to control her bladder, constant complaining of vaginal itching/burning, and many more symptoms which by themselves mean nothing (we thought it was due to the new baby in the home).  It soon came to our attention that Tony Allen was sexually molesting her, and we took legal action.  He is currently serving 10 years in prison here in Georgia.  My daughter was a very brave young girl: She got up in court (without me in the room) and testified to the specifics of the crime. She is currently in counseling and has been for over a year. I did not have the knowledge at the time to find out if anyone living near me was a sex offender.
