I joke you not my fellow gamers when I tell you that this game is special. If you thought that a game as beautiful and unique as MGS on the PSone could never be created for the GBC then you were wrong. First of all this game has everything in it that made the original great such as the box ability, infrared, night vision, cigs and much
ControlWhat surprised the hell out me was the incredible control that most Game Boy games lack. The movement is smooth and easy with quick character reactions for tight spots. Making Snake crawl on the ground and into ventilation shafts brought back some great memories. It is quite easy to kneel and hide from unsuspecting enemies and in fact the game rewards you if you manage not to be see at all. What I loved most was the customizable weapons ability much like that of the original which had players assigning certain items to the "A" or "B" buttons.
Game DesignThis is where the game truly shines because this, hands down, is the most inspired Game Boy game since Pokemon. The levels are all unique and memorable and leave a distinct impression in the players mind as to what is most important in games; content. Playing a game like this reminds me that there are game developers out there who still love the art of making epic games. This is one of the few GBC games that I watched the entire credits roll and was actually touched by a game of this caliber.
SoundWe all know how Game Boy game have great music, right? Well maybe not but trust me when I say that this game has some of the most elemental and situational music ever. MGS easily has the best music on the system so far with great ambient tunes that are very similar to the PSone counterpart. Music is crystal clear and tension setting, which is the most unique factor in this game.
GraphicsLet's be honest everyone, the GBC just doesn't cut it in the graphics area. Even though games such as Zelda, Wario 3 and Pokemon are exceptions it's just not common to find graphically intense games. Metal Gear Solid is one of those exceptions because it strives to push the limits of the GBC with great animated cut scenes that really move the story along. Characters are surprisingly detailed and each level has many graphical effects. Infrared is very cool. Overall: 85%-Evil Romero Thanks to Konami.com for the pictures.
