News	Indonesian volcano spews lava, gases JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- A rumbling volcano spewed clouds of noxious gas and lava in the densely populated heart of Indonesia's main island of Java on Wednesday, threatening surrounding villages and farms, scientists said. Activity within the volcano's mountain has increased slightly over the previous 24 hours, volcanologist Ratdo Porpo said. He said authorities had called for people living around the volcano, about 250 miles east of Jakarta, to prepare to leave the area. In 1994, 66 people were killed when they ignored an order to evacuate a village on the volcano's slopes. The latest activity started in early January and scientists have warned that there could be a major blast at any time.
