Although I had done some climbing in Scotland I had never climbed in big mountain ranges or on glaciated or alpine terrain. I finally got the chance in July 2004 when a group of us attempted Mt. Bona in the Wrangell St-Elias range in Alaska. At 16,500ft, Mt. Bona is the 4th largest mountain in the US. We had 10 days of perfect weather and summited under clear blue skies and 100 mile visibility.
