AB-2895 Supports Terrorism!
S-O-S calls for Chief Bratton's dismissal
Claims by LAPD Chief William Bratton that AB-2895, (the bill to give CA driver’s licenses to illegals) will help him identify terrorists are completely false. The bill will have the opposite effect.
Chief Bratton obviously does not know, that background checks contained in an earlier version of the bill (SB-1160) were removed. There are NO background checks required in AB-2895.
Additional security provisions from SB-1160 that were dropped in AB-2895 include;
Federal tax identification number, sponsorship by a licensed US citizen, proof of California residency, declaration of intent to apply for legal status with the affidavit signed under penalty of perjury, and the use of certified livescan fingerprint operators.
Moreover, AB-2895 adds new provisions that weaken law enforcement capabilities by preventing officers from detaining or arresting unlicensed drivers. Gil Cedillo’s stated intent was to make sure that all California drivers were licensed and insured. This bill AB-2895 has the opposite effect. It gives driver’s licenses to illegal aliens who want them, but it also protects illegal drivers who don’t have licenses. It’s a fraud! It prevents police officers from enforcing immigration laws.
Unintended consequences of the bill will promote crime. AB-2895 enables any applicant for a CA driver’s license to establish multiple identities. The FBI has warned that documents allowed by AB-2895 to obtain CA licenses are not verifiable. And they aren’t! Any criminal can use the provisions of AB-2895 to establish a new identity, or multiple identities. There is no way for the state to know how many identities are involved. The state has no means to check the applicant’s background.
This measure puts public safety at risk. Even worse, Chief Bratton has baited terrorists to come to LA. His irresponsible statement reflects an inflated ego that puts the lives of all Californians at risk. His misconduct in supporting AB-2895, and in baiting terrorists is inexcusable and reprehensible. If Chief William Bratton does not resign, he should be immediately suspended or dismissed.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who already indicated his intention to veto an earlier version of the bill, must now veto AB-2895. It is much worse than SB-1160. It is a clear and present danger to national security.
