With the play in game completed, round one of the tournament is ready to go!! Check out the bracket for an overview of everything, right here we'll give you and in depth look at the first round matchups!!
Sky vs. Sea!
Eagle A battle of birds of prey! With the recent surge of patriotism, can the American Bald Eagle ride the wave to victory? The Falcon seems to think that the Eagle's status of "threatened" has to do with him. This well trained bird says he knows why the Eagle is an endangered species.
Oriole The battle of the Baltimore sports birds! But which bird is really better? Ravens are exceptionally smart, and often will call wolves and coyotes to prospective food sources so they can open up the carcass, making the meat accessible to the birds. Could there be a run in? The Oriole meanwhile is bigger than a sparrow, but smaller than a Blue Jay and... let's be honest, unless Julio interferes the O is pretty much screwed. Bummer.
Ostrich It's the battle of the flightless birds!! The ostrich is the world's tallest bird, with the male being 6 to 9 feet tall! They're also extremely strong and fast! On the other side of the battle is the wily penguin. Penguins of course are much smaller being no more than about 4 feet tall, but when comparing the Ostrich to polar bears, orcas and other such beasts that the penguin has to deal with, is the ostrich all that threatening? Also, watch for interference from other penguins... they always work in packs...
Owl How effective will the owls legendary wisdom be in a matchup against the plucky vulture? The Owl is about 20 inches long, and spends it's time hunting mice. The Vulture on the other hand is a scavenger... so how well will it deal with a live owl? Will the vultures be circling? It should be a hoot!
Shark An old grudge match! 15-20 feet of gnashing teeth, the Great White shark is the world's largest predatory fish! The Dolphin, 12' long and up to 1,400 lbs., is considered possibly the world's smartest animal! Some people think even smarter than man! Along with this incredible intelligence is the fact that Dolphins and sharks have been known to fight... Can a snoot to the gills stop the great white from advancing in the tourney? We will see!
Stingray Rays, sometimes called birds of the sea, are somewhat like flattened out sharks. The Stingray's tail contains one or two sharp spines capable of delivering a toxic sting! The Electric Eel electrifies other fish and eats them... in fact it can electrocute a horse!! The stinger vs. the shocker! Who will win?
Orca The Orca, or killer whale, is a highly intelligent and deadly sea predator! Up to 32 feet long and 18,000 lbs. they emplot hunting techniques similar to Lions or wolves, and eat seals, squids, sea turtles, and even blue whales. While Orcas can take down the humongous blue whale, how will it stand up next to the sperm whale, the world's largest toothed whale? 49-59 feet and weighing over 30 tons... can the vicious Orca overcome something so large that may actually be able to defend itself? We shall see!
Squid Ah, the huge squid... providing nightmares since 20,000 leagues under the sea! But what of the mythical Colossal squid? Only 6 have ever been seen, the remains coming from the insides of a sperm whale... The giant squid has measured up to 18 meters... the colossal squid even larger! The largest octopus measures up to 16', and weighs over 800 lbs.! With tentacles everywhere, the ink will really fly in this one!! So that does it for the Sky vs. Sea bracket! Check out the other brackets! Reptiles vs. Mammals, Cats vs. Dogs, and Wild Canids vs. Misc. Care to weigh in? Send in your vote and let your voice be heard!
