Welcome to the website for the upcoming feature APPLESEED LAKE, thanks for checking us out.  I shall endeavour to update the news section at least once a week, but i know that after about 3 weeks that’ll never happen.  Nice to dream, though.

We are nearing the end of post production on what has turned out to be a longer haul than we had originally envisaged.  Mike, the editor and myself have worked ourselves to the bone to make this film as good as we can, and i think we have succeeded.  The film bristles with energy from the actors and humour within the script, which even after looking and listening to it for almost four months i am still in love with it (ah, how sweet!).  The new voiceovers add a element to the film that wasn’t in the (original) script - A more personal, vibrant quality than before.

I should really fill in all of you that have stumbled upon this site looking for the latest Granny Smiths website.  AL was filmed back in June 2000 with a cast of recently graduated drama school actors as well as some already established actors.  We shot on a very tight budget in 12 days with a small crew and have come out the other end with a 75-80 minute feature film.  Shooting in Manchester/Chester and North Wales, we had what could only be referred to as ‘miracle weather’ for two weeks.  We had tons of bright sunshine and it was very, very hot.

Since completion of principal photography, we have added new elements to the film in the forms of more personal voiceovers and still photographs to tie the inhabitants of the town together.  The AL score was composed by Neil Johnson, who also appears in the film as ‘Pete’.  The soundtrack is a blend of electronica and acoustic music, along with tracks by Lorna, Deep, The Heath Robinson, Miriam Jones and more, all giving the film a laid back wistful feel.  As Neil Johnson described AL ‘A British Western’, but one without guns, or big hats (we did have horses - but way, way in the background).

So far, we have two articles written about the film.  The first one was for MOVIEMAKER, a US publication that should be out very soon(The SUNDANCE issue, no less!).  Written by Giles Musitano (AKA The Super8Kid) it talks about our decision to film on pro8mm (on which most of the film was shot) as well as the film ‘v’ video debate - plus showing loads of stills from the film.  The second, a more Q+A article for GUNFIGHT29 (is this right, Neil?) which should again be out soon.  MOVIEMAKER is available in BORDERS, TOWER RECORDS and other specialist shops, GUNFIGHT29 is available in WATERSTONES, Covent Garden, London; ICA, London; Bristol, Rome and Tokyo (Wow, does that mean we could be big in Japan?)

So, what is in store for APPLESEED LAKE now?  Hold your breath, and wait...

...I can see you turning blue, but wait...
