Hunting

Upland birds or moose? Deer or ducks? Turkey or bear? Northern New Hampshire is home to many game and nongame species. No matter what kind of hunting you're into, be it with bow, muzzleloader, gun or camera, Wild New Hampshire holds something for you. We offer a variety of services to cater to the hunting and non-hunting public. We can custom build your hunt to include arranged lodging, meat processing, smoking, taxidermy, etc. Just let us know what you do and don't want in your hunt, and we'll arrange your hunt the way you want it. Following is the description of a typical NH hunting season in the order in which the seasons follow. Prices for various hunts are listed at the bottom of this page. If you don't find prices for the particular hunt you're looking for, please contact us via email by clicking on the eagle, and we'll get right back to you.

Wild turkey

Wish you could extend your hunting season, or are you tired of hunting in the frigid cold? Then spring turkey hunting may be just the ticket for you. The spring season typically runs through the month of May. Hunters are allowed to take one male turkey with shotgun or archery gear. Hunting hours are from 1/2 hour before sunrise till noon. The northernmost portion of Coos county is not open to the taking of turkey at present, but plans are in the making to open this area within the next few years as the birds are quickly populating and migrating into it. Trophy gobblers like the one in the photo below are quite common; not easy to take mind you, but quite common. Some hunts are conducted away from our base of operations, in which case we'd be happy to arrange lodging near the hunt area. The cost of the fully guided hunts is listed below, and does not include license/permit, meals, lodging or gratuity.

Black Bear

The fall black bear season begins September 1st, and runs late into the month of November. Black bear are prolific in our hunting area. As a matter of fact, we would venture to say that we are blessed to be located in the heart of the finest bear country in the state. Large boars in excess of 400 lbs. are taken each season. The average bear taken typically runs between 200 to 300 pounds. We offer hunts over meticulously maintained baits in quite remote areas, (no dump hunting!). Our treestands are first rate. (No rickety permanent stands!) Our operations boast a near 100% sighting ratio, and success ratio is running a little better than 75%. As mentioned on our home page, we cater to hunters who wish to hunt with their spouses or children as we have set up baitsites with two-person ladder stands. We also are willing to adjust our prices for two-person hunts. A fully guided two day hunt runs $425, again, not including license and tag, lodging, meals or gratuity. Please note that there are no hidden costs such as trophy fees. Longer hunts are offered (see below) or can be customized. Please contact us for more information.

Archery Deer

Archery/muzzleloader/firearm deer season kicks off with archery around mid September, and runs till mid December. The fall "archery only" turkey season runs concurrent to the archery deer season. Archers are able to harvest one deer or turkey of either sex with bow and arrow. Please check regulations for the WMU (Wildlife Management Unit) you're planning to hunt as regulations vary. If you enjoy a challenge, we hunt big woods deer. Bucks dressing out in the 250 lb. range are taken annually. The rut typically occurs in mid November with prime hunting at that time and three weeks prior. Hunts are done from treestands, ground-blinds, and in small drives. As with bear hunting, we do have two-person ladder (deer) stands set up in strategic locations for hunters who wish to hunt with their spouses or children. Again, we will adjust the rates on two-person hunts. Please contact us for more information.

Waterfowl

If waterfowl is what turns you on, our season begins toward the end of the first week in October. We hunt by puddle jumping, sneak shooting, and hunting in flooded timber. We see good numbers of wood duck, mallard, blacks, teal, etc., and in recent years, the Canada geese have been numerous.

Moose (Canadian)

New Hampshire's moose hunts are done on a lottery basis. Applicants must submit their applications and $10 fee by the end of May, and select their preferred hunting zones. We guide in zones from A to E. Our preferred zones are B,C2,C1 & A2 (in that order).
Moose hunting is very popular here as the area is thick with them. Trophy bulls (50"+) are taken annually. We are happy to guide the trophy hunter as well as those who draw antlerless permits. A six day antlered (bull) hunt runs $975, and does not include license and permit, lodging, meals, or gratuity. An antlerless hunt runs $750 with the same criteria. Unlike other outfitters/guides, we do not have any hidden or additional "trophy fees". Our prices reflect the actual cost of your hunt as described above.
In regards to lodging, we have arrangements with several establishments so your lodging will prove to be very reasonably priced and comfortable.
Having avidly hunted/fished/hiked the entire northern tier of the state, we have intimate knowledge of the best game habitats. We're constanly bumping into moose. In the event that you get drawn for either unit D1, D2, E1, or E2, and you cannot find a guide, contact us, and we would be happy to do a semi-guided hunt for you. We will help you with setting up accommodations, as well scouting the area and taking you in to where the moose are. You can take it from there. Beyond that we can reccommend and/or arrange game processors, meat smoking, taxidermists, etc. Give us a call and we can custom build a hunt for you.

Muzzleloader Deer

Blackpowder arms present a great challenge, one which shouldn't be taken lightly. Though challenging, the early muzzleloader season provides an excellent opportunity. NH's muzzleloader deer season normally begins at the very end of October/beginning of November, and runs for about 10 days. This season affords the blackpowder enthusiast an excellent opportunity at deer which haven't been spooked by excessive gunfire yet.

Firearm Deer

Firearms deer season normally begins at about the end of the first week of November, just as the rut comes on. Gun season normally runs for about a month. Snow is usually on the ground making for some productive hunts.

Coyote

Recently, we began offering post-season coyote hunts through the winter. We conduct the hunts on tracts of land adjacent to deer yarding grounds in efforts to control the local coyote population which it seems is constantly on the rise. We offer a bounty for coyotes taken by our hunters. It's a great way to extend your hunting season, to help the local deer herd, and to help fight off cabin fever.

As you can see, we like to hunt up this way. Please try to contact us well in advance as we book up early. If you can't find your hunt in the prices above, or in the list below, give us a call, or drop a few lines, and we'll see about putting the right hunt together for you. As with all of our guided activities/trips, we require a deposit of 50% of the total trip cost to make your reservation. Our policy on cancellations is 80% return prior to 90 days before your activity/trip. We're always willing to work with folks to rebook the trip, or book a different trip, in which case we'll reapply the remainder of any canceled deposits. Give us a call, we'd love to hunt with you. Good hunting, and hunt safe!
