1986 METS

The 1986 World Champions

Manager: Davey Johnson
Record: 108-54

"I enjoyed the party on the mound after the game more than anything. I felt it for the fans. They hadn't won since '69, and they were so adoring, like a 10th player for us. It was something to be proud of."
--Keith Hernandez after winning the World Series

Season Summary
1986 Mets Statistics

The 1986 Mets didn't need as many miracles or help from the baseball gods as the 1969 Mets did. They were flat out good. There was no way around it. In 1986, the Mets won 108 games during the regular season, which is good enough to proclaim them the best team the Mets ever put on the field.
They may not have had great chemistry. They were an arrogant team but at the same time when it came down to it they were a great team. They won, which is the ultimate object of the game. The team consisted of loveable characters such as Mookie Wilson and Gary Carter but also the team had players such Daryl Strawberry, who many Met fans would grow to hate in later years. But all that doesn't matter because the 1986 Mets' talent and character mixed together perfectly to produce a World Championship.
