The Preobrazhensky Cathedral The Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Belgorod Preobrazhensky Cathedral (The Cathedral of Transfiguration Of Lord)

It was built in 1813 as a church in the place of an old wooden church. The architect was Evgeny Alexeevich Vasiliev. In the end of 1920s after closing the Troitsky Cathedral the Preobrazhensky Church got the status of cathedral. Finally this cathedral was returned to the Church in July of 1991. Now in this cathedral the relic of St.Ioasaf's body is kept.

It was built in 1799 in the town cemetry. Besides of the mail altar of St.Nickolay there were the altars of great martyrs Kharlampy, John Long-Suffering and John the Forerunner. In 1962 after closing the Preobrazhensky Cathedral this church got the status of cathedral. The main altar was dedicated to St. Sanctifier Ioasaf. The iconostasis of this cathedral was made in XIXth century.

The Smolensky Cathedral was founded in 1727 by Archbishop of Belgorod Peter. The double storied cathedral had two altars: the lower one dedicated to the Smolensk Icon of the Holy Mother (Hodigitria) and the upper altar was dedicated to St. Peter and Paul. In 1825 the upper part of the cathedral was finished with marble for the money of merchant Machurin. And in 1839 the third altar in the cathedral was dedicated to Archistrategos Michael. In 1992 the cathedral was returned to believers.

The Cathedral of Archangel Michael was built in 1844 for the means of merchant Michail Konstantinovich Machurin. The architecture of this cathedral is a very typical example of the Russian provincial church building of the middle of XIXth century. This cathedral was not closed in the communist times. There was an altar of XIXth century in this cathedral.

This cathedral was founded in 1701 by Emperor Peter the Great. The worship books for the cathedral were presented by Russian Emperors and their families. In 1930s the cathedral was closed and its building was used as a bread-making plant. In 1986 the cathedral was taken under the state protection as a historical and architectural memorial. In 1999 The Uspeno-Nickolaevsky Cathedral was given to the Marfa-Mariinsky Nunnery. The peculiarity of this church is there are two churches in one: the first is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin ("Uspenie" in Russian) and the second is dedicated to St.Nickolas. And also in the attached part of the building there is the altar of John the Baptist.
Now the cathedral is under restoration.

The Protection of the Holy Virgin Cathedral was built in 1791. In 1837 the additional part was made dedicated to St.Mitrophan of Voronezh, and in 1865 one more addition dedicated to St.Tikhon Zadonsky. In the end of 1920s the cathedral was closed and the communist authorities made a prison in this building. In 1991 the restoration of the cathedral began. In 1993 the cathdral was given to the Marfo-Mariinsky Nunnery and now the ceter of this nunnery is based in this cathedral.

This chapel was built in 1996 in memory of soldiers lost their lives in Belgorod.

The Chapel-Kiot of the Holy Virgin of Kazan was built in1997 in the Rechnaya Street in memory of Belgorod inhabitants burnt alive by Germans when Belgorod was occupied by Germans during the World War II.

The chapel was build at the entrance of Belgorod on the Moscow-Simferopol highway. The autor is architect Bersenev.
There is a gilded figure of angel inside the rotunda blessing everyone coming to the city.

This is a typical example of a living house of the end of XVIIIth century.
It was built in 1782 in the center of Belgorod.
Now the Belgorod Literature museum is located in this building.

It was open in Belgorod in 1860 under the petition on the local nobility and their leader Prince Saltykov-Golovkin.
After the revolution of 1917 the school was closed.
In 1941 in this building there was a military hospital.
After the was the building was restored and now the School N 3 is located there.

The Boys' classical school was open in August of 1874.
This building is an original memorial of achitecture of the epoch of eclecticism.

This hotel was built in the beginning of XXth century. Before the revolution in this building a hotel, a shop and a printing house were located.
Now it is one of the buildings of the city administration offices.
