Dapto
Swimming Club
was founded on July 19, 1965, with
its first annual general meeting to form a committee held on September
15th of that year. The Club's first pointscore commenced during the
following summer season. It has always been the philosophy of the
Club to promote a healthy, fun loving environment for the youth of
the community whilst at the same time instilling the self discipline
required to be competitive at the top level in the sport. Written
into the Constitution of the Club is the following: "The objects
of the club shall be: to promote, teach and encourage the arts of
swimming and life saving... To stimulate public opinion in favour
of providing proper accommodation and facilities for swimming."
The present committee embraces this philosophy endeavoring to promote
a family atmosphere through regular social functions and group support
of our swimmers at all swimming carnivals.
Dapto is one of eighteen
swimming clubs currently affiliated with the South Coast and Tablelands.
The Club operates twelve months of the year with a summer and winter
pointscore at Dapto Olympic Pool. During the summer months the Club
also operates a Learn to Swim program at Dapto pool as a free service
to the public. Since its inception the Club has encouraged its swimmers
to attend swimming meets at District, Country, State and National
levels, and in doing so has enjoyed much success.
The
Club was first represented at the summer Country Championships held
at Tumut in 1968 by three swimmers, and since has gained numerous Country,
State and National medals. More recently, Kaine Love, one of our most
successful swimmers, represented Australia in Greece as a member of
the Australian Short Course Team, and also in New Zealand with the Australian
Oceania Team.
As a Club, we have won six Country March Past trophies (1978, 88, 89,
90, 97 and 2000), along with many District March Past Championships.
At a recent Country Championships in Orange, the Club was awarded the
inaugural Cancer Council "Sunsmart" trophy for sun awareness.
The Club has been fortunate to
have had a number of exceptional swimmers throughout the years. Through
the determination and dedication of our swimmers and coaching staff,
the Club has attained a high profile throughout the district. The following
is just a brief summary of some of our swimming highlights:
