DAPTO SWIMMING CLUB In the thirty nine years since its inception, Dapto Swimming Club has enjoyed success as one of the leading swimming clubs within the South Coast and Tablelands Swimming Association. Providing the district with many representative swimmers at a local, state and national level, Dapto Swimming Club has always been a leader in supporting its swimmers through the provision of officials at all levels of swimming, training facilities and financial assistance to those competitors travelling out of the district. A brief history of the Club,
including a summary of some of the Club's swimming highlights over the
years, can be found here > History. Drugs in Sport: As with all Olympic sports, swimming has strict guidelines as to the nature and use of substances which are legal to use when training and competing. As part of Australian Swimming it is the intention of this Club to strictly adhere to those guidelines and each year we will endeavour to update all our members on what the current guidelines are. NOTE: Competitive swimmers using certain types of asthma medication MUST inform Australian Swimming or risk disqualification and suspension.
EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE
CLUB OFFICIALS
Committee meetings are open to all members to attend. We welcome your input on these occasions. The second Monday of the month is usually scheduled for Club meetings. The venue is the Club Room, commencing at 7:30 p.m. A copy of the minutes is available to members in the Club Room. Check out > Club News for more details. Location: Bangaroo Avenue, Dapto (South of Kanahooka) The Club Room is a facility
which has been funded, erected, extended and embellished by many members
over many years. It is available to be used by all our members, and
we encourage you to do so. We only ask that members respect the facility.
It is a general rule that swimmers dry themselves before entering.
CLUB ACTIVITIES T.B.A. A Points Score
is run during the summer season* and Friday night is Club swimming
night. The details of the programme and an explanation of rules are
set out here > Points
Score Programme. Events commence at 6:00
p.m. Eastern Standard Time and 7:00 p.m. during Daylight Savings.
Children are requested to arrive and fill out their race entry cards
15 minutes before events are due to commence. *
Winter Point Score CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Club Championships are held at the end of each summer season. There will be an Age Championships and an Open Championships. These are designed to determine the best swimmers in the Club in each of the age groups. However, it is also the intention to encourage all swimmers in the Club to compete. For those not eligible the Club will conduct a Minor Point Score to run in conjunction with the Championships. Information on these events are detailed here > Club Championships. Interclub Carnivals are displayed on the Club Notice Board and are also listed here > Swimming Carnivals. All members can enter the Invitation Carnivals. The programs are devised to give children experience in competitive swimming. Support your Club, have an enjoyable family picnic and watch your children compete. Please note that all entries for these events must go through the Club's Race Secretary. Entry fees for District carnivals are the member's responsibility and will vary from carnival to carnival. You must include your NSW Capitation number on your entry cards. Ernie Furbank & VI Schofield Handicap Trophies are handicap events held during the summer season. All members, both children and adults are eligible to enter. Details of these events will be advertised prior to their running, so check out the Club's newsletter, or visit our Club news link here > Club News. The Over 18 Handicap is a separate handicap arranged for the older swimmers and parents. Don't be afraid to enter. You don't have to be a good swimmer -- as long as you can dog paddle 50 metres you're in with a chance of winning. In recent years this event has been very keenly contested! The Xmas Challenge Relay is held on the Xmas break-up night and has always been a fun night on which we hold a number of special events. A recent addition to this is an open relay in which members can organise teams to compete on a handicap basis. Up for grabs is a wonderful perpetual trophy, and this is always keenly sought after. The rules for the event are quite liberal, in keeping with the fun of the event, so why not organise a team and have a go. The Social Committee operates
throughout the year organising social events and fund-raising, and
believe us, this Club is very social! This is a great way for new
(and old) members to make new friends. The committee is always looking
for new helpers and will welcome any offers of assistance. Please
contact the Social
Secretary. Membership for the current swimming year will be for a period of 12 months from October 2002. To fulfill the requirements of NSW Swimming and to cover swimmers for insurance purposes membership is due as soon as a swimmer begins competing. It is a Club rule that swimmers do not get credited with points whilst they are unfinancial. More importantly swimmers are not covered by insurance while they are not financial, especially public liability insurance if they happen to cause injury to another person. Fees for the 2004-2005 season are as follows:
We encourage all members of a family to become financial so that they can enjoy the benefits of the Club and they are covered for personal public liability insurance when they are around the pool or at a Club function. Where do my fees go? Unfortunately,
as with all amateur sports, we do not have the support of major sponsors
or rich benefactors. Therefore we must raise almost the entire cost
of running our Club ourselves. This is quite substantial and despite
the best efforts of our members in fundraising we must charge a membership
fee. However, we try to keep this as low as possible. |
