********************************************************************
Recent evidence has come to light to indicate that there were two
Lewis Neils -- one of Indiana, a *different* one of Henry County,
Kentucky. The current person (who married and divorced Millie Cox)
was of Indiana, while the Henry County one (not this person) was
the revolutionary war vet. The Neill Family history appears to
have mixed up the two incorrectly. The information below pertains
to the Henry County Lewis Neill (but I am leaving it here for
completeness). The current Lewis Neil might have been born in
Scotland (see Census 1870,1880 for his son, William Neil).

A Revolutionary War Veteran.
It was while a resident of Frederick County Virginia, that Lewis Neal enlisted
in the Revolutionary War. He was of Scotch descent, born July 4, 1760, and
died in 1833.
Lewis Neal enlisted in the Revolutionary War in April, 1781, and served four
months as Forage-Master in Captain John Rice's Company, Col. Elias Edmond's
Virginia Regiment. Later he enlisted in Col. Holme's Virginia Regiment. He
was allowed a pension on his application executed August 13, 1832, while a
resident of Henry County, Kentucky, aged seventy-two years.
Before the war, Lewis Neal owned 1800 acres of land in and what at that time
was called Mercer's Bottom, Virginia, besides other plantations and mills, and
hundres of negroes. The dashing young soldier could never retrieve his fortune
after the ravages of the war.
In 1816, Lewis Neal married Pamelia (Millie) Cox, only daughter of Joseph and
Mary Serginer Cox. (Early papers tell of the marriage of the beautiful
daughter of Joseph Cox to Lewis Neal in considerable detail.)
William Neal (13 APR 1815-22 JUL 1907) m. Mahala Parker (19 MAY 1813-18 MAY 1900) on 8 AUG 1839 at Bartholomew Co.,Indiana, children: 1. Lewis Neal (26 JUN 1841- 7 AUG 1902), 2. Neal (21 APR 1855-19 APR 1925), 7. Angeline Neal ( 7 JAN 1857-30 MAY 1932).
Mary Neal ( 8 JAN 1821- 1888) m. John Edwards (15 NOV 1815- 1875) on 1836, children: 1. Nancy Jane Edwards, 2. Pamelia Edwards, 3. Sarah Ann Edwards, 4. Emily Edwards, 5. Eliza Edwards, 6. Martha Eliza Edwards, 7. Marinda Edwards, 8. Mary Alice Edwards, 9. Ellen Edwards, 10. Joseph Edwards, 11. Charles Edwards, 12. Henry Edwards, 13. George Edwards.

Notes:
Had a 4th grade education. Worked for a lumbermill as a tallier, adding up how
much lumber had been loaded onto trains. During his adult life, he worked
around Oregon as jobs arose, with the family living a rather nomadic
lifestyle, moving from place to place often. For a time at the Silver Falls
Lumber Company in Silverton, he worked along side Clark Gabel before the latter
had made it big in the movies.
Even when Clark Gabel was working in the lumbermills, he always
said he was doing it to get enough money to launch his movie career, which he
successfully did.
Frank served in the Army during World War I. He landed in Liverpool in 1917,
went across the Channel to Brest, France, and worked behind the lines building
hospitals, caring for the wounded, etc. He saw no combat. His commanding
officer was Lt. Gibling.
