In Barnstable in 1640. He was a Mariner, one of the purchasers of Oyster Bay, Long Island in April 1653, and had his vessel seized for intercourse with the Dutch, then our enemies, by Thomas Baxter under a Rhode Island Authority, but obtained restitution with decree for 150 pounds. [Savage 3:188].

A Colleague of Rev. Lothrop. Came in 1638, sworn freeman 3 Mar 1640, ordained 15 Apr 1640. He removed to Eastham in 1646, then to Boston where he became the first minister of the Second Church (i.e., North Church) on 9 Nov 1655. He was dismissed from that position in 1673 at an advanced age. He then went to Barnstable and lived at Eastham and Yarmouth.
----------------------- The Settlement of Rev. John Mayo's Estate [MD 9:119-121]:
Rev. John Mayo died at Yarmouth, Mass. in May 1676, without having made a will, and his estate was settled during the following month, the agreement of the heirs being dated 15 Jun 1676. The records here printed are found in the Plymouth Colony Records of Wills and Inventories and in the Court Orders, the proper reference being stated in each case.
[Plym.Col.Wills, III:1:165]: An Inventory of the Estate of Mr. John Mayo Late of Yarmouth Deceased.... [items omitted here] Mistris Tamasin Mayo the Relict of Mr. John Mayo above mensioned made oath to the truth of this Inventory soe far as shee knowes; excepting onely the Goods and estate which shee had before theire Intermarriage, which shee had not Claimed Right nor power to Dispose of but onely to use while they lived together as, as shee affeirmeth and to bring in what further shee may know the 2cond of June 1676. [Court Orders, V:139, under date of 7 June 1676]: Mr. hinkley mr ffreeman and mr huckens are appointed by the Court to take Course about the estate of Mr John Mayo Deceased to make Devision and settlement of the said estate both with Reference unto his wifes prte and amonst his Children; and therin to acte if it may be to theire satisfaction, and incase they Can not then to make Report therof to the next Court that soe further may be taken for settlement therof;
[Plym.Col.Wills, III:1:175] Witnesseth These prsents an agreement betwen Mistris Tamisin Mayo: viz: and Relict of mr John Mayo Late of Yarmouth Deceased; and the Children of the said Mr. Mayo in the prsence of and with the Concurrance of Mr. Thomas hinckley Captaine John ffreeman and Thomas huckens; appointed by the Court to be healpfull to them in the Devision of the estate of the said Mr Mayo: viz: The said mistris Tamison Mayo is according to her Desire to have eighteen pounds in Mony and five pounds in such other prte of the estate, as shee shall Choose, which accordingly shee hath Received in full satisfaction of her thirds, and whole Right into her said estate; onely shee is to pay all the Country Rate; and the one halfe of the Rate Due to mr Thornton from the said estate and alsoe shee is to pay the one third prte of whatsoever Debts shalbe made appeer to be Justly Due, and payable fromthe said estate; and the three surviving Children of the said Mr. Mayo to pay theire proportionable prte to the said debtes according to theire Respective prtes and Interest in the said estate; which is to be Devided in three equall prtes, to each of them alike; as neare as may be in speciue or equivolent to it; provided alwayes that John Mayo have first alowed to him over and above his prte one bed and furniture, therunto belonging Inventoryed att six pound and ten shillinges; and all the sheep to Samuell Mayo hannah and Bathshebah the Children of Nathaniell Mayo Deceased and 40s a peece to the eldest sonnes of all the Children of the said Mr Mayo which have not yett Received the same; and then the Resedue oft he estate to be equally Devided as aforesaid; In witnes whereof, the prties Concerned which were heer present; have heerunto sett theire hands this 15th of June 1676. Jabez Snow

Notes:

He was admitted a freeman at Eastham on 7 June 1681, and he served there as surveyor of highways and selectman. As lieutenant he engaged in the expedition to Canada of 1690.

Jabez Snow of Eastham, dec'd sometime since is settled as follows: By Reason of ye change of Government and other troubles ye settlement of estate was defered until this time, and Administrix gives a satisfactory account. 9 children, eldest son Jabez Snow to have doubble part 38 pounds, 8 shillings. Son Edward 19 lbs, 4 s.; son Thomas 19 lbs, 4 s, 6 daus 14 lbs 4 s each. Estate settled 8 Apr 1695."

In [MD 22:165-167], the settlement of Lieut. Jabez Snow's Estate (d. 27 Dec 1690), widow Elizabeth, who married William Merrick of Eastham is identified.

Ralph Smith

Notes:

He came to New England in 1633. He drew a lot on Batchelor Street in 1637.
He was probably the son of John Smith of Hingham, according to Leon Clark Hills, Cape Cod Series Vol. 2, pg. 60.
He removed to Eastham about 1653, where he held several town offices at various times.
