Photo of Joshua Simster Garsed, 1st Lt. of Company B 23rd Pennsylvania.Joshua was musteredin as a corporal on August 2nd 1861,promoted to Sgt. and then again to 2nd Lt on October 20, 1861 and finally to 1st Lt. on July 12 1862. He was killed on July 3rd 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg. He is buried at Levrington Cemetery in Roxbourough, PA.

He was mustered in on August 6 1861, he resigned on July 20 1862and was commissoned Col. f the 114th Pennsylvania "Collis Zouaves".After the was he returned to Cuba and became the Commander in Chief of Cuban Insurgents.
