| This is the Soldier Index Card for Private Aaron Van Fleet, Company K, 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, "Birney's Zouaves". Aaron was born in Flemington NJ in 1840. He was mustered in at The Skuykill Arsenal on August 6th 1861 and placed in Company K. Company K was the second Gymnast Zouave Company. He was shot and mortally wounded at The Battle of Cold Harbor on June 1st 1864. He died on June 11th 1864 at his home in New Jersey, (Card is Incorrect)and is buried at Clover Hill Reformed Church in Hillsborough, NJ. You can view a photo of Pvt. | This is the Soldier Index Card for Col. Charles P. Dare, 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, "Birney's Zouaves". He was mustered in at The Skuykill Arsenal on April 21st 1861 as Coloniel. He got ill and was unable to reenlist for Three Years Service, he died in December of 1861. You can view a photo of Col. Charles P. Dare on Page 6 of The Original Photos Pages. | This is the Soldier Index Card for Private Robert Elliott, Company C, 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, "Birney's Zouaves". Robert was born in Philadelphia in 1840. He was mustered in at The Skuykill Arsenal on September 1st 1861 and placed in Company C. He was wounded at The Battle of Cold Harbor on June 3rd 1864. He was mustered out with the Company at the end of the Three Year term on September 8th 1864. We are still looking for a Photo of him as well as his final resting place. | This is the Soldier Index Card for Private James Earle, Company F, 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, 'Birney's Zouaves". He was mustered in at The Skuykill Arsenal on August 2nd 1861. At the time of his Enlistment his occupation was Sailor. He had grey eyes and a light complexion. James was wounded at The Battle of Fair Oaks on May 31st, 1862. He was mustered out with the Company at the end of the Three Year term on September 8th 1864. He re-enlisted with the 82nd Pennsylvania Volunteers but then was Transfered to The Veterans Reserve Corps due to his injury.
