He was seriously wounded at the Battle of Fair Oaks and taken prisoner on May 31st 1862.He was discharged on a surgeons certificate on December 9th 1862. in Hanover, Luzerne County,PA, just behind the chapel. He was mustered into service on August 18th 1861 and mustered out on June 28th 1865. He was wounded at 2nd Frederickburg during the charge of Marye's Heights with the 61st PA. He also served with Company D of the 61st PA from March 1862 to June 1865.
