The grave of 1st Lt. Louis D. Baugh of Company G (Three Months Volunteers). He is buried at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia is section LA , Lot 63 , Grave 1. He was born on August 3rd 1829 and died on May 8th 1894. Thanks to all of those at West Laurel Hill Cemetery for being very kind of my genealogical research and for having someone on staff to help. I recommend this cemetery for anyone who is interested in buying a plot.
Grave of Pvt. Charles Harris of Company F. He is buried in Levington Cemetery in Roxbourough, PA. Behind his grave you can see the large oblisk of Pvt. Samuel Doak of Company O 23rd Pa. Charles Harris was mustered in on August 2nd 1861 at the arsenal in Philadelphia. He served faithfully and was mustered out on September 8th 1864.
Grave of Lt. Col. Robert B. Beath. Robert Beath got his start with the 23rd PA as a private of the three month enlistees. For more information on him see the Original Photos , Page 14.
The Grave of Col. John Ely of the 23rd Pennsylvania. John Ely was born in 1816. He was mustered in on October 7th 1861 in Philadelphia. As a Captain he was wounded at the Battle of Fair Oaks on May 31st 1862. He was promoted from Captain to Major on July 20th 1862, from Major to Lt. Col. on December 13th 1862. He resigned on December 6th 1863. He was breveted Brigadeer General on April 15th 1865. He died a few years later on May 5th 1869 and was buried at Woodlands Cemetery in Philadelphia. He is buried in Section F , Lot 783-787 , Grave 4.
Grave of Pvt John Grindrod of Company K. He died on May 27th 1916. He is buried at Los Angeles National Cemetery in California in Section 29 Row 1 Grave 18.
Grave of Pvt. John Highland of Company K (Thre Months Volunteers). He was mustered in on April 21st 1861 and mustered out on July 31st 1861. He died on May 5th 1893 and is buried at Philadelphia National Cemetery in Section F, Lot 104.
