Although Geothermal
energy can be
used as a great alternate energy source, that does not pollute the
environment; geothermal energy is not easily accessible in South
Florida, very expensive, and is not cost efficient for this
community. As we have you best intrests at heart we chose not to
use geothermal energy as a source of energy in this community.
By
definition geothermal
energy is a form of energy obtained from within the earth, originating
in its core: also, energy produced by extracting the earth's internal
heat.
Geothermal energy is energy gathered from the heat produced in the core of the earth (where temperatures can reach up to 9000 degrees). This energy heats water, the steam of the water is used to turn turbines and create power. Geothermal
energy can be harnessed into a heat pump
There are many steps within
the production of geothermal energy. First, there's setting up
and drilling a pipeline to harness the hot
water, which can vary in cost. Then, setting up a power plant can be
very expensive, around $3000/ Kw and that's for the smallest possible
type of geothermal power plant. In order to set up
a plant large enough to run this project it would cost thousands
of
dollars. The fees for maintenance of this plant can range from
$.01-
$.03 but if used constantly (which would be required if we were to use
geothermal energy in this community) prices for
maintenance can sky rocket.
Deep wells can be drilled into underground reservoirs to tap steam and very hot water, the steam turns turbines, then the movement of the turbines is transformed into energy, and stored in generators. For more Geothermal Power Plant
In Florida there are sources of renewable energy that can be used other then geothermal that are more cost efficient and are easier to obtain. These sources, such as wind energy and solar energy can be obtained with less cost and easier availability. |
