One of the great periods of history into which the Linguist-Historians have divided the history of Arcadia. This is perhaps the most active period of Arcadian history, at least as far as many great events happening in a fairly short period of time (about thirty thousand years from the end of the War of the Falling to the Change), and might also be called the Age of Rowan, as Rowanian Councilmasters dominated the period. Yubro Deerfriend discovered first the cure for the Dying and then the secret of creating life, and several generations later Eleriad Deerfriend discovered the secret of starflight and labored long in the War of Acceptance against the humans. Then Herran Turnlong took over the Councilmastery, opening the gates to other races and putting an end to slavery and torture.
Linguistically, the Third Era was marked by the prominence of Aril and its accceptance as a common tongue. Other racial languages were often spoken in their own communities. The humans came to speak several Aril-derived tongues that are, alas, ill-studied. The languages fractured and changed even further in the Change. Primal remained a language of lore, and a means of choosing or changing personal names. Government communications were often written in it.
