Advancement

Up The Rules Gender Bending Rule Academy/Grounds Academy/World Advancement

We have developed a system to advance characters through their different stages of development. This system was implemented to provide a standard method to determine skill levels, as well as provide the players with some kind of incentive to continue to develop their characters. We GMs ask for specific TYPES of posts, and track the player's progress throughout the game

The requirements are designed to encourage interaction between the characters, and personal growth throughout the game.  These posts include Taking Classes, Completing Chores, working in the Danger Room, participating in "missions", and interacting with other players. When you have completed each level's requirements, your character will pass on to the next level. When you graduate from your Senior Class, provided circumstances allow it, we GMs announce a graduation ceremony for your character.

We do not currently have any levels beyond "Senior", so when your character graduates, there is no further tracking, only "Free Play".  Your character may decide to go on to college (either commuting to one of the New York colleges, or taking their classes via internet courses), find a job, become a Team Leader and help train in other students in the Danger Room, or you may have them return to their home towns, and take up another character from the beginning.

Though we understand that, in the Marvel Universe, most students would go on to become X-Men, this game is about STUDENTS.  The X-Men/Faculty members are habitually removed from the area, excluded from the action, and generally kept in reserve until they are absolutely needed, in order to focus on the students at the school.  This severely hampers the ability of players to actually play X-Men characters.  It's just not a part of the basic concept of this game.

Because this is a school setting, there will be times when nothing seems to be happening. Classes are held, Danger Room practice happens, but no real adventure occurs. (How boring!!) But then, even the X-Men were not fighting and foiling plots every day of the week. We encourage players to use this "down time" to further develop their characters, and work towards fulfilling their advancement requirements, as times of adventures and missions ONLY count towards fulfilling the Mission Requirements. The rest must be done outside the missions.
