| Training for the Guards took one year of grueling and painful work on the barren and cruel world of Yinchorr. The trainees were trained in all form of combat style and the use of a wide range of weapons and vehicles by the master instructor Master Kennede, a former Guardsman himself. They were also trained in all forms of survival skills to equip them for their mission on any world in the universe. |

The Guards trainees battled each other in countless matches, perfecting the fighting art called Echani. Most of the time, these matches were conducted on the Squall; hence defeat means plunging into the endless pit beneath the itl. By working alone and in pairs, the trainees learned how to both rely on themselves and on a teammate to achieve victory for the Emperor and his cause. Thus, failure in training often meant death. |
| Out of more than forty trainees in a given training year, only a handful will survive for their final test before the Emperor himself. And that test will proved their ultimate loyalty to their Emperor: a battle against one's training partner . . . to death. The victorious, now instill with the full devotion to the Emperor and his New Order, will be integrated into the Emperor's elite Imperial Royal Guards while the loser will meet his ultimate death. |
