Tuxedo Mask
Mamoru, Tuxedo Mask

Overview

Mamoru is a mature young-man who is very cool, dark, and handsome. He owns and rides a motorcycle and is sort of a heart-throb for some girls. But Usagi completely disliked him when she first met him at the start of Sailor Moon. Usagi thought he was rude and very self-absorbed. He and Usagi would argue alot, even over small things. Mamoru also in fact gave Usagi the nickname "Dumpling-head" for her bizzare hair style. When he was a child, Mamoru was in a car accident with his parents. His parents died in the wreck and he had to live in an orphanage, not knowing who he really was because of lose of memory. He had continuing dreams that a young princess told him to find the Silver Crystal. He would then search for the Crystal thinking that if he found it the princess would help him in some way. The princess was in fact Princess Serenity, which is how Tuxedo Mask was first created. Mamoru and Usagi later discover each others' identities as Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon. Because of this, they fall in love.

Tuxedo Mask is of course Mamoru's alter-ego. When he first transformed into Tuxedo Mask, it was a painful process for him and he had no control over it. He would come to the rescue of the Sailor Soldiers when they were in trouble. He was not meant to kill any of the monsters they fought, just to distract them and buy time for Sailor Moon and the other Soldiers to attack. He does not have any Special Powers besides throwing enchanted roses which pierce their targets and/or distract them. Tuxedo Mask also has an extendible staff which he carries for defense and to use as a weapon. In the first season, though he defended the Sailor Soldiers, he was in a way their enemy because he wanted to get all the Rainbow Crystals first so he could create the Silver Crystal before anyone because of his dreams. After the Crystal was revived and was granted back to Princess Serenity, he was captured by Queen Beryl and used to fulfill her evil deeds. He was later healed back by Sailor Moon.   In Sailor Moon R, Mamoru became the Moonlight Knight and again helped fight against Alan/Ail and Ann. In the second part of Sailor Moon R, Mamoru kept having nightmares of the death of Usagi in the future, thus he broke-up with her because he feared for her life. We later find out that King Endymion in the future sent his thoughts back through time to warn Mamoru of the death of his wife, Neo-Queen Serenity. He also later discovers that Chibi-Usa is his daughter from the future world. Also, the Sailor Moon R movie is based mostly around Mamoru and what happened to him when he was young. In Sailor Moon Super S when the Dead Moon Circus landed on Earth, they started creating spider-webs everywhere. Their arrival on Earth gave Mamoru a strange illness, because Earth was his guardian planet and if it was in danger, he was ill. In Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, he was hypnotized by Nehelenia and taken into her world of Nightmares. He was saved when Sailor Moon healed Nehelenia. Again in Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, he wanted to travel to the United States so he could continue his studies there. On his way, his plane was attacked by Sailor Galaxia and he was killed after Galaxia had taken his starseed. In the end, Sailor Moon kills Chaos and Mamoru returns.
