Once there was a
donkey who had worked very hard for his master. The donkey was getting old and was no longer strong. His master wanted to turn him out. The donkey decided to run away |
taking the road to Bremen. When the donkey had walked a little way, he found a dog by the
roadside. The dog was out of breath. "Why are you panting so hard?" asked the donkey. The
dog was an old hunting dog. He said he could not run fast anymore and catch rabbits. His master
was going to have him killed. The donkey said he was on his way to Bremen to become a
musician. The dog said he wanted to become a musician too. The donkey said he could bray
and the dog could bark and howl. They walked down the road to Bremen together.
