CycleTraders

Current Version: 1.2
Client Download size: 500 KB+
OS: Windows, Linux, Solaris
Progress: n/a
Percent% Complete: Ongoing

From the project website:

CycleTraders is a cooperative network of users that gather critical information about the status of each other's website. By running the client on your machine, you donate some of your computing time to measure the response time of other user's web pages. In return, your site is also timed by all the other users on the network, from a variety of locations and connections. This data can be analyzed to gauge response time from different geographical locations, at different connection speeds, and at different times of the day. All this is automated through a web interface and an email reporting system.

grub.org

Current Version: 1.0.6
Client Download size: 2.8 MB+
OS: Windows, Linux
Progress: n/a
Percent% complete: Ongoing

From the project website:

Grub provides a free for download, free to run, distributed crawling client, which is used to create an infrastructure (database + volunteers) that will eventually provide URL update status information for nearly every web page on the Internet. Grub's distributed crawler network will enable websites, content providers, and individuals to notify others that changes have occurred in their content, all in real time.

Capacity Calibration

Current Version: n/a
Client Download size: n/a
OS: Windows
Progress: n/a
Percent% complete: Ongoing

From the project website:

"Capacity Calibration (CapCal) is a patent-pending technology for measuring the capacity and performance of any server or Web site from a distributed network of agent computers inside or outside the corporate firewall. The CapCal technology is the only solution that can provide true end-to-end Web capacity and performance measurement and analysis. It is available as a locally- or remotely-delivered service bureau offering, a hosted hourly subscription service, a licensed software package, and as a pre-configured appliance that can be owned/licensed outright or rented on an as-needed basis."

Participants are paid $0.30(US) per hour of work. Payments are made via PayPal: users are paid when their earnings total $1(US) or more. Participants must have a full-time, high-speed Internet connection and must run the CapCal Java client application at least 10 hours per day or 70 hours per week. Under Windows 98 and Windows ME, the client only runs when the screen-saver is active. Under Windows 2000 you can configure it to run any time or only during specific times.
