A week has passed. It's now up to the day of the " Back-to-School Blast "...
Capeside High gymnasium- Andie and Jack are are among the many Seniors decorating the gym...
Jack: I wonder what's taking the others so long.
Andie: I guess they're not early birds like we are.
Jen arrives, followed by Dawson, Joey, then Pacey..
Jen: Okay, guys. Some of us aren't a morning person, myself included, so I brought us coffee and donuts compliments of Grams.
Pacey: I love Grams. ( He takes a donut and a cup of coffee )
Andie: Okay, guys, we can chit chat later, it's time for decorating.
Pacey: Andie McPhee, college student. Does that scare anybody else? ( he smiles )
Andie playfully hits him, he laughs...
They start decorating...
Pacey: You know, I thought Senior year was supposed to be fun. That we would rule the school. Jen, your boyfriend should be here along with the other Freshman decorating.
Jen: Actually, Pacey , Henry is a Sophmore now. But I do agree with you that it shouldn't be the Seniors doing the decorating.
Pacey: Exactly. It's still our summer vacation and they're making us work.
Dawson: What? Three months on a boat with Joey wasn't enough vacation for you?
Jack: Uh oh.
Joey: Dawson..
Pacey: Wow! I bet you were just dying to bring that up weren't you?
Dawson: Sorry. It just slipped out.
Jen: ( changing the subject quiclkly ) So is anybody going to this thing tonight?
Jack: Yeah. It's going to be great. You don't need to worry about having a date. Something that is not the easiest thing for me to do.
Andie: And I'm going. You all know how I love to dance. ( she smiles )
Joey: Well, I'm not. It's just some silly back-to -school dance.
Andie: You are so wrong, Joey. It's one of the last dances we're ever going to have at Capeside High. You really should go. After this year, we're all going to go our seperate ways.
Joey: Some of us are already doing that now. ( She looks at Dawson )
Dawson: ( looks back at her ) Are you referring to me?
Joey: Well, who else here is going to college in Philadelphia?
Jen: You are? ( surprised )
Dawson I'm thinking about it. It's not set in stone or anything.
Jen: Wow! And here I thought you would remain a small town boy. ( she smiles )
Dawson: Well, things change. People change. ( he looks at Joey )
Principal makes an announcement which interrupts the tense moment...
Principal: Okay, Seniors, great job with the decorating. I really appreciate you all helping out. See you guys tonight.
Everybody leaves the gymnasium...
Nighttime- Capeside gymnasium, the dance has started. Jen is sitting at a table, Joey comes in...
Jen: Hey! You decided to come after all.
Joey: Yeah. What Andie said about how this was our last year of school and how we should make the most of it really got to me. Besides, it beats babysitting a two year old.
Jen: Well, you can sit with us if you want to.
Joey: Thanks, but where is the rest of this " us " you're talking about?
Jen: Jack is somewere around here, Andie dragged Pacey out on the dance floor, and Dawson is not here.
Joey: Oh.
Jen: You were hoping he would be. Well, it's early, he could still show up.
Joey: Yeah, but if he's going to be dancing closely with Amber, I think I'm just going to leave because I don't want to see it.
Jen: Or he could show up by himself and you could be the one dancing closely with him. ( she smiles )
Joey: LIfe is never that kind to me.
Jen: Well, I think life is being good to you now because he just walked in...alone.
Joey: ( looks, then smiles ) Maybe Bessie was right This might turn out to be a great evening.
Dawson comes up to their table...
Dawson: Hey, guys.
Jen: Hey. Amber couldn't make it?
Dawson: She said she would try to come, but she didn't know if she could. So, I'm here in case she shows up.
Joey: Do you want to sit with us?
Dawson: Um, sure. Thanks.
Joey: No problem. ( she smiles )
Jack, Andie, and Pacey come back...
Andie: Hey Dawson. Joey.
Jack: Did you just get here?
Joey: Yeah. A few minutes ago.
Dawson: Well, I'm getting thirsty. I'll see you in a little bit.
He leaves to go get some punch...
Andie: So, what's going on here, Joey? Did you and Dawson come here together?
Joey: No, I think he's expecting Amber to show up. Is it wrong to say that I hope she doesn't?
Jen: No. I hope she doesn't either because I'm tired of all the dancing around the obvious. You both love eah other so much, but you're too scared to admit it.
Joey: I have admitted it. I told Dawson exactly how I feel.
Jen: Joey, after everything that has happened, did you honestly think that Dawson would be so enthusiastic to get back with you?
Joey: No. I guess not. I really was a bitch wasn't I?
Jen: I've been saying that since I met you, but now you're my friend. Times sure do change.
Joey: Yeah.
Jen: So, are you going to get Dawson out of denial tonight?
Joey: I'm going to try. I can't believe I'm the other woman.
Jen: Yep, you're a little homewrecker. ( she smiles )
Joey: ( laughs ) Shouldn't Henry be here by now? Jen: Yeah, and if he doesn't get here soon, I'm going to kick his little Sophmore ass.
Dawson comes back to the table...
Dawson: Here, I brought you a punch.
Joey: ( smiles ) Thank you. ( she takes a sip )
Jen: I'll be right back. I have to make a phone call. ( She leaves )
Joey: So, this dance is pretty lame huh?
Dawson: I don't know. From what I saw, it looked like you were having a good time laughing it up with Jen. What was so funny?
Joey: Girl talk.
Dawson: I'd never thought I se the day when you and Jen would be friends.
Joey: Like you said, things change.
They continue sitting at the table drinking their punch...
Some time has passed, DJ makes an announcement over the microphone..
DJ: Okay, everybody here's a song for all you sweethearts wih us tonight.
A familiar song comes on...

Dawson & Joey look at each other, a knowing look...
Joey: Do you want to dance? We've been sitting here the whole time. Let' stretch our legs. ( she smiles )
Dawson: Okay.
They go on the dance floor and start dancing....

Joey: ( thinking to herself ) The last time we heard this song we ended up nearly making out on the dance floor. I don't think that will happen tonight or will it? ( she smiles )
Dawson: What 's that smile about?
Joey: Oh, I was just thinking about how many times we've done this. If they're was one thing we got right when we were together, it was the dancing.
Dawson: Yeah. I guess you're right. That was the one thing that was always perfect.
