John C. Curttright

During the Civil War
John served in the Iowa
37th Infantry Co. I. This
regiment was known as the “Iowa Greybeard Volunteers” as these soldiers were
all over the age of 45, and they were exempt from service, but chose to
volunteer. John enlisted on October 15, 1862
and was discharged on May
24, 1865.
John’s second marriage
was to Polly B. Cumpston on September 13, 1865
in Fairview,
Iowa. The marriage was performed by Elder N.B.
Homan. Polly was born about 1809 in Massachusetts,
and was previously married to Isaac Cumpston who died on February 16, 1860
in Kingston,
Illinois. Polly died on February 23, 1895
in Fairview,
Iowa.
John and Margaret had
