The Unknown Ancestor

Until June, 2001, many descendants had very little information about Silas Harris, other than the name of his wife and her parents. Interestingly enough, his wife and his son, Zachariah's, wife share the same surname. Zachariah married a daughter of his mother's father. We learned this tidbit of information from a research paper mailed to the webmaster by George A. Harris. The research paper, linked to the Isaac Harris page includes other interesting facts on the family that had been preserved by descendants of Silas's second cousins.

Family Group Sheet for Silas's Family

We have included an ASCII Text file of a Family Group Sheet for the family of
Silas Harris that came to us through George A. Harris. This FGS does not list other children mentioned in the Garda Hodgson research paper, but we know one of the children was Benjamin F. Harris, who had written a letter that she quotes in the article. It's unclear really how many children he had. We know Zachariah's widow and children went back to live with this family after her husband died in 1839, which explains some of the extra people in his household as listed in the 1840 census, reported in the Hodgson article. More information is still needed on this family.
