Current Approaches Discussion

Beijing wire on 7-26,1993:

(I) Very few people use PinYin Method now,
as too many people speak various dialects.
(II) The Radical Method is too difficult to learn and use,
not practical for daily usage.
It can not be promoted widely to general public
and to Chinese-character-using population.

Problems on both shores are the same.

A. Radical (字根) and Character Parts (部件) :

祗要看看 "中國大陸上使用的電腦鍵盤",
便知 "簡筆字" 讓 "中文電腦之使用" 變得 "非常複雜".
除非 "專業人員", 一般大眾或學生均不會使用!
Just look at the KEYBOARD used in the mainland, China
you should know
the simplified character actually complicated
the Chinese "computer inputting".
Need professionals to handle the "word processing",
a layman or a child even can hardly manage a keyboard!

B. Phonetics (音符) :

"拼音系統中的 a b c ...", 不可 "發" a b c ... 音!
必須 "按" 注音符號 BO PO MO FO ... 發音.
否則 "拼音 (PinYin)" 不準.
這樣, 大陸以外的人若以 "英語正常規則發音", 則 "干格不入".
所以, 才會有 "層出不窮的" 其他方法出現.
Microsoft PinYin, Google PinYin,
Cantonese PinYin, abc-ZuYin, .....
才只是一個 "開始" 呢 !!!
"百花齊放" 的日子還在後頭!

So long as
"a" does not sound a,
"b" does not sound b,
"c" does not sound c
...
in Chinese PinYin,
there will always be more versions like
"Microsoft PinYin",
"Google PinYin",
"Cantonese PinYin"
Taiwan's 2nd FORMULA of ZuYin
...
come out to meet WORLDWIDE users' need!
Chinese PinYin is an ISOLATED case
for China mainland use only.

說 "土話 (方言 Dialects)" 的中國人佔 98%,
他們都 "咬" 不出 "北京音".
難道不會說 "北京話" 就 "不能"
使用 "中文電腦" 了嗎?!

Promoting 普通話 is quite a different thing from
teaching ALL people 中文電腦輸入.
Computerizing HanZi 漢字 is vitally important to
modernize China.

Please, Do not mix these two together !!!

趕快爭取 "寶貴時間",
先讓中國 "現代化" 最重要!

1. CHINA (Mainland) PinYin (拼音)
北京音 (用 a b c ... 符號 / 發注音符號 BoPoMoFo 音),

"近音字" 的 "拼音碼" 只有 "微小差異",
除非能夠 "精準掌握" 成百上千個 "近音字碼",
否則, 採用 "音符輸入法" 將會感到非常 "頭痛".

Accidental Mistakes (常見之偶發 "錯失") In
ZuYin (注音) & PinYin (拼音)

The PinYin-Codes of some Chinese characters come dangerously close,
they require a professional linguist to differentiate them.
You will face a critical task to do it right
if "PinYin Input Method" is used.
If you goofed, unexpected ERRORS will pop up here, there, everywhere!
It may make the Chinese text un-readable.
