In Tacoma, there are so many places to meet for music.
But, there will always be that one place where the paths of all Tacoma musicians, as well as those from Seattle and Olympia, all somehow cross, at least once, by way of their musical endeavors. Tuesday nights, the Antique Sandwich Company in quiet little Ruston has, for almost twenty years, hosted an open mic run by Tacoma's 30 year old Victory Music and its passionate volunteers. It was here that Madeline met the very talented people who are now on her Rain Baby CD--Erin Gullaksen, Vickey Lyn, Jessie Caro-Maier, Red Rhys, Sandy Palamidy, and on and on. The "Antique" has housed the bluegrassers, the folkies, the newbies, the pros, the rock your pants-ers, the curious, the keyboard magicians, the chord-bangers, the songwriters, the songlovers. It will always be a place of the wonderful "first time on stage jitters" and the "de-stressing post-stage memories" for Madeline, and certainly for many others. And, then there are the regulars--the ones who keep coming because their passion for music outweighs the lack of money in the pocket--they are the true starving artists whose devotions to their music carry them past their human weaknesses, bringing them together often times to jam across the street with each other while awaiting their turn to play.
Madeline says that she has yet to find another place in Tacoma that has had the fortune of being blessed with so much talent, and one that has endured for so long.
