Madeline is a folk/rock artist from Tacoma, Washington. She is often viewed as Tracy Chapman, Melissa Etheridge, and Sarah McLachlan all wrapped into one. Her voice is unique and inviting, tender at times, strong and willful at others. Her songs capture the wide variety of feelings belonging to the human spirit. Madeline was first known to her audiences as a prolific songwriter, sharing her music with local musicians in the Puget Sound area. However, during the past year, Madeline has been surprising audiences with her emotionally compelling performances, her equally moving compositions, and the soulful tones of her rich, low voice. Her music draws young and old, reflecting the human soul, and addressing the feelings common to all of us.
Madeline was featured in the October 1999 issue of the Victory Review, and has currently produced and released her CD, Rain Baby, the title for which represents the musical influences she has grown up with in the Puget Sound area. Rain Baby features fifteen popular artists of the Tacoma/Puget Sound area. But, what makes this project special is that, in order for Madeline to illustrate the heart and soul of Rain Baby, the artists were pulled from widely differing musical style preferences--folk, adult contemporary, hard rock, country, classical and jazz--and brought together to form a cohesive and entertaining piece of work.
She also was chosen as the "Local Artist of the Week" and her interview aired on May 6, 2000 by a Tacoma radio station,
KBTC 91.7FM on the Local Connection.
Madeline, as a child, began playing the bass clarinet. She was selected from among many musicians at the age of fourteen to participate in the United Kingdom ensemble for young musicians, held in London. She participated in choirs, jazz and pep bands, marching bands and solo and ensemble competitions. As a senior in high school, she was chosen to play for All State Band in Washington, held in Bellingham, and was also awarded the John Philip Sousa award by her peers for her musical passion and the strong influence it made on others.
Madeline's ability to play many instruments makes her an asset
to the local acoustic community. She collaborates her talents with several artists, harmonizing, creating arrangements for their songs, and
performing with drums and percussion, keyboards and guitar.
Madeline continues to contribute to the music world by encouraging and helping new artists find direction and focus, volunteering for events, and writing an occassional review on artists or CDs. Her energy and devotion to music is considered a contributing factor to the upsurge of acoustic music in the area, and her music continues to affect the growth of spirit in the musical community.
