The One Angel
Darsey blinked gently as the doctors put a gas mask on her. "Count backwards for me Darsey, starting at 10." Darsey began to count backwards, slowly drifting off into a deep sleep. Then they began the surgery. Darsey was born with a terrible brain tumor. It soon went away - well, the doctors seemed to think so; the x-rays hadn't shown any sign that anything was wrong. But the tumor had simply liquified into a goo which had soon turned into a hardend brain cancer, which could only be removed and taken out by surgery and special antibiotics. The doctors had suggested she be put to sleep during the surgery, due to the fact during most brain surgeries the patients are kept awake, but this surgery was too intense, too rare. Suddenly, Darsey was taken to a whole new world. I must have died on the operating table, Darsey thought to herself. The air; it smelled so fresh! There was no light; the only light source was blue. Everything was blue. But Darsey wasn't standing; she was lying on her back, like she was on the operating table. Suddenly, on her left, and angel flew past her, smiling. She smiled, and reached her hands up. There were so many angels flying now, all of different sizes, colors, origins, and ages, and some faces she even recognized. She smiled and reach an arm up and felt a cool breeze go by her arm, and when a little girl angel, who couldn't have been past the age of 5, came up to her and put her hand on Darsey's. She smiled, then flew on. Then, the angel with the most familiar face flew by. The angel was wearing a ring which had the letter D - and Darsey thought it stood for her name. She knew the angel so well, for the angel was her mother, who died when Darsey was at the tender age of 6. "I'm very proud of you Darsey, and what you've become and done with your life," she said. "And I love you very, very much." "I love you too, mom," Darsey replied. "I miss you." Darsey started to cry as her mother touched her face. "I'm with you all the time, Darsey, you just never look deep enough inside your heart." Her mother flew on, as the angels and the blueness disappeared. About an hour later, Darsey woke up. She blinked, then touched her bandaged head. She felt of her hands, how soft and smooth they felt now. Then she noticed the blue, D letter ring on her hand - identical to the one her mother was wearing. She smiled, and held her hand close to her heart, and fell back asleep.
